Hi Jeanetty,

It's quite common for people with asthma to experience worsening in reflux symptoms - some of the medications that are given for asthma, as well as making the airways wider, make the valve between the stomach and the gullet wider and allow the stomach contents to reflux up more easily. Medications that are particularly thought to do this are beta agonist relievers, like salbutamol, salmeterol, terbutaline, formoterol, and tablets like theophylline and aminophylline. There are treatments for it, these include Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) drugs like lansoprazole and omeprazole, which you are probably already on, but there are other options as well.

If you are having chest pain, though, and this is new for you or you have not previously discussed it with your doctor, you should visit your doctor to make sure there is nothing serious going on.

Hope this helps

Em H
