Last night during a rather unpleasant Costa visit, I had an ABG taken (which took 2 attempts in itself) and afterwards I found my wrist swelled up right away. Doctor said it was a small hematoma and that it would settle down on it's own, has anyone else had this and what did they find helped with the pain and helped it settle down?

ABG Causes Hematoma.
Hey...i used to get these all the time and still do when to poorly to care...i have no idea how to make the pain go away now, but away to prevent them happening ive always found is by pressing super hard straight after the ABG has been done and keep the pressure there for a fair few minutes. That way it stops the artery from bleeding into your skin. Helps to prevent a nasty bruise also most of the time.
Sorry its not much help short term and i hope you are feeling better now!!!
Xx
I think it always causes bruising and is painful when it is being done but like Charlie I think the best thing is to press hard on the spot. If you are feeling well enough to remember to do it and are not at the ...don't really care any more stage! I had a beautiful black and blue wrist last time but it took a few attempts to get the blood.
Hope you are feeling better now.
ouch that doesnt sound nice. hope they let you out wingedangel and that you arent captured. arnica is good for bruises but i'm not sure if its contraindicated for us asthmatics. take care and hope you feel more well soon. xx ><>
Poor u, it is really sore but does settle down. I do feel your pqin as I'm currently sporting a rather fetching bruise on the inside of each wrist myself right now from ABG tests on Thursday.
Restimg the wrist helps as if you do a repeated movement (eg peeling veg) it csn make it sorr again.
Take care and hope you recover quickly.
