Does anyone else get really sharp chest pains when their asthma is bad? You all sound so brave, I get really scared when my asthma is bad and I feel sick to the stomach and sometimes i feel like I need to run to the toilet but my legs and body are so weak I can't. Does anyone else feel like this?
helen1,please will you get a checkup with the docs or hospital.I had chest pains and admitted twice and was blood clots in my lungs.I put mine down to asthma and shocked with the results.
yours could be lots of reasons but not sure asthma gives you pain so would be wise to get a checkup and put your mind to rest.Im just getting over a bad attack and they aren't nice, but its so nice being on here and having lots of support form other people with the same problem.
welcome pm me any time we are similar ages.
lots of love Glynis xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hi helen,
Quick question, do you get reflux, there is research to link GERD to angina like symptoms in asthmatics, and the other bit not conclusive yet is that the use of salmeterol and salbutamol etc can aggrivate the process, so when your asthma is bad, you use more reliever, and this could explain the symptoms.
But if in any doubt please go to your GP.
Chris
Helen, the chest pain is probably the intercostal muscles for most of your lift you toddle along without even knowing they are there until you strain one usually during an asthma attack coughing or just the sheer effort of trying to breathe, they tend to hurt from right under your boob (sorry chaps) round to you sider or even your back. I have had mine go so many times I know what it is and how it feels but for your peace of mind and mine you should get it checked out if this is the first time you have had them. Heat pads (make sure you get ones without ibuprofen if you are allergic to it) help or a hot water bottle, regular paracetamol will help a lot too but you must make sure you take it regularly, it is a most effective pain killer when used properly.
Good luck
Bex
Hi all,
Thanks for your replies. I've been to the doctors and I don't think they are even sure what it is. One said it was because of my osteoporosis and one thought it might be a problem with my heart and they have given me a heart monitor for three weeks. But I have had them before and they always get worse when my asthma is bad, it's just that recently they haven't been going away. I've tried paracetamol but it doesn't give much relief.
Hope you are all coping

had a sore throat and bad cold for the last two days..eventually went to the out of hours docs service in falkirk,,my stats were 95, bp was 159/89 doc gave me steroids for the next 5 days and amoxycillin, 3 x500mg per day for a week, also said my chest seemed clear apart from the wheezing, and advised me to take my reliever salamol every couple of hours..also have chest pain but to be honest I think this is down to the coughing, but noticed it's worse when i'm moving about and going upstairs...could someone please tell me if a resting pulse of 120 is normal or could that be down to the steroids?
scottishmum,
a heart rate of 120,now is that sat still or just been moving around. Sat still I'd say a little high, I have resting HR of 50-60, but you are still unwell, and it's not uncommon to have a raised heart rate and BP. but may be worth a trip back to your GP, bit higher than I would like.
A resting pulse of 120 is not normal get yourself to A&E now and get it checked out.
resting 120bpm means your tachycardic- bex is right, you need to go to a and e asap- dont leave it till morning etc.
