Was seeing my gp to change inhalers due to side effects
my gp had strong preferences for certain preventers and combination inhalers
has anyone else had this?

I've had my steroid and long acting inhaler changed to a combined one, if that's what you mean?
I changed from Serevent to Seretide years ago - found the Seretide to be the best preventer I've had.
my cons loves symbicort and tries to change everyone onto it unless they cant tolerate it. thankfully it works well for me!

loved symbicort but gave me really bad cramp in the feet and hands. Clenil is good for me but hope to come off it come spring - hope for me is the big thing at the moment - well it keeps me out of A & E
It may be a cost issue: the NHS doctors are meant to find the most cost-efficient way of keeping us well and that can involve trialling certain inhalers before others because of their price. Alternatively, it may be that they personally have experience of certain inhalers/combinations working really well for lots of their other patients so they tend to prefer those over certain others.
