I had surgery under general anaesthetic yesterday- started off with gas and continued with IV, and I was just wondering- I felt like I was choking to death when I was going to sleep and woke up feeling like I couldn't breathe and coughing, it was really unpleasant! is this common in asthmatics? has anyone else had the same experience?
I have mild asthma and had taken 2 puffs of salbutamol as advised just beforehand, although I don't often use it nowadays.
I've had quite a few different operations - no problem going off but did wake up coughing once.
I have pretty nasty asthma. Last op I had, I just had an injection. Didnt know they still use gas. When I woke up, I was fine. Perhaps the gas upset you?
