Hey, hope everyone is keeping well :)

i am only 20 and i have had asthma since i was three...been troublesome since the age of 11, over the years doctors have really struggled to get my asthma under control, meaning that i was on adult doeses of meds from a young age. At the moment i am on

-Seretide 500mg twice daily,

-Atrovent 20mg twice daily,

- ventolin as required (although getting by, by multidosing.)

- monelukast 10mg daily, prednisolone on and off..although more on than off these days,

-Kenalog 40mg injecion once every 5 weeks,

- Risedronate Sodium 5mg daily.

the problem that i have is that i now have very thin skin...i was admitted to hospital a new year having had a severe asthma attack so the put a large cannula in....which has left me with a scar!! i have to be really carefull because i am finding that even cuts and grazes that should heal really quickly and easily take weeks and leave me with a scar...has anyone else found this?? and if so can u recommend anything to help prevent scarring and encourage healing??

Thank you so much for taking time to read this i am very greatful.

I caught my arm on a knife in december and I had to have 5 stitches, and the scar is still huge. I put bio-oil on it every night and make sure I keep it nice and mositurised. I hate having thin skin too, its rubbish :(

I've got a few cannula scars too, mine are only small though so they don't really bother me.

Vitamin E is supposed to be really good for scars, I know someone who buys vitamin E oil capsules, breaks them open and massages them into the area. Or you could try a cream with a high concentration of vitamin E.

I also remember reading the aloe vera gel is good for scars. I've used bio-oil in the past but didn't find it did any good, but that could well be because I got fed up of applying it regularly!

hi becca

the only meds i know to cause thin skin is steroids, long term use.

as for scarring etc.. i agree bio oil is brill :)

I've asked the same question recently from GP and consultant about scarring but neither can answer me. I have a scar from a cycling accident while I was in vietnam in nov. Like you concerned it was still very evident. They say my protein levels are ok. I bruise easily too. So is it side eff of meds or condition? Who knows? Just one of those things and guess its good to know that others are the same. I'll be band from doing any cycling or dancing in wk before my wedding!

I have had Asthma since the age of two and am now suffering from really paper like skin, where even a small budge can break it and heavy black bruising occus.

My Doc seems to relate this to prolonged Prednisalone usage over the years.

Sorry I dont have any solutions!

I wish I could help. I am in the same boat and can find no advice about my thin skin. I love to be active but I have to make sure I have a first aid kit with me to immediately cover what should be mild cuts but for me are wounds. If I do this, they do eventually heal, although some leave scars and at leasdt they don't get infected like they used to.
