Acetylcysteine Nebs
Is anyone else taking these? I'm on them 4 times a day at the mo. The smell actually makes me gag. Not exactly sure what their purpose is.
Thanks,
Sarah

Dear Seren85
I've been on them and they are gross! You have my sympathy, they smell like rotten eggs but they worked really well for me, I found they made me cough terribly so had to neb ventolin first. I also found it helpful to keep a separate mask purely for the Acetylcystein nebs otherwise all nebs end up smelling the same way despite in-between mask washes.
I used them for deep seated thick mucus that just sits in the bottom of my lungs, its supposed to really loosen things up, well thats what I was told at the time.
Hope that helps.
Hello Sarah!
I had a trial of acetylcysteine nebs but my lungs hated it, so only tried it twice.
This is pretty good for info on them;

Their purpose is to thin & loosen mucus.
But I see you're in Glamorgan - did you know Llandough hospital is currently carrying out a phase III trial of inhaled mannitol? Have you tried to get on it? If not I urge you to do so! It is still recruiting at the moment so all you need do is email the dr shown on this list as the contact for Llandough
clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show...
I also have bronchiectasis & pseudomonas (so neb colomycin like you) and can tell you mannitol is the best thing ever, miraculous at clearing thick sticky mucus & preventing infections. I was incredibly well on the trial, but as soon as I came off it I've been going downhill. However am just starting the drug again on compassionate grounds.
If you want more information just pm me
btw I'm from Glamorgan originally too - Cowbridge
