I have quite yucky sinuses so every now and then I do a sinus rinse. Everytime I do one I develop a sinus infection which then travels to my chest and causes a chest infection. Does this happen to anyone else? It feels like whatevers up in my sinuses gets disturbed and then runs free! I thought it was just a coincidence the first 2 times but its happened again! It makes me feel quite poorly achy, tired etc.
Hi there, yes it happens to me. I am just getting over a chest infection that started as a sinus infection. I dont really know how to stop it as I was doing all the usual things like steam under a towel to un-block them but it still went to my chest! I am sorry you feel so rough, thinking of you.

I can't offer you specific advice about your chest infections after using a sinus rinse. Initially my GP recommended the sinus rinse for me cos I had chronic sinus problems that were caused by using steroid nasal sprays constantly for 5 years. I use it every morning and I found my hay fever was a lot better this year and this winter every time I have had a cold coming nothing has developed from it, including the bad chest which in turn has meant my asthma hasn't been a major problem this winter. I don't know if this is a coincidence or what, but I have found it to be very helpful
Which one do you use? I use Neil Med and the pre prepared sachets with boiled warm water. Are you gently blowing your nose after rinsing? I must admit I sometimes feel a little weird in my head after doing it (sort of like I have a cold coming feeling), but I find as long as I do it daily then it isn't so much of a problem
