Hi,

Just a quick question does everyone else' children suffer with loads of other illnesses aswell as there asthma, my ds has had 6 bouts of tonsillitis, bowel problems, eye problems just ongoing since birth, he is now nearly 2????

In a word - yes! You name it, my teenage son has had it. Things are much better now, just the troublesome asthma/rhinitis.

I had pretty much every illness going as a child. Not so bad now - I am ill more than most of my friends, but I'm definitely not as susceptible as I was as a child.

Entirely anecdotally, I had a period of a few years of much better asthma control when I had my tonsils removed...

Yes, it went that way with my son as well. As a kid I did the same. Can be a real pain, I think my son was 7 or 8 before we managed to avoid an emergency GP appt on Christmas eve! It was never the asthma, always something else.

in a word yes, especially if they need lots of courses of sterids, or pick up infections easily or have allergies, eczema... but some children do grow out of asthma and eczema, so dont get too disheartened

Little man has actually been relatively lucky with regards to extra probs outside of his on going issues. However i do feel he has had his fair share at 18mnths old. 5 hosp admissions related to his ""viral wheeze and bronchiolitis"" Two mri scans for fluid on the brain.

Silent reflux and lactose intolerence both undiagnosed for the first few months of his life.

I totally felt out of my depth as a mummy and had no support from hv.

Random gp finally seemed to take us seriously when he silent refluxed in the surgery and went blue!! Tadah not just a paranoid new mum.

He now has eczema from eyes down but only moderately and he does seem bothered. Another miss diagnosis by gp picked up once infected by same gp that diagnosed reflux!!

However, bad mum alert, following our last appointment at duetician it transpires he has had diarrhea since birth and brains here didnt notice!! His bowel movements were so much better once he was lactosefree i was overjoyed. Being a first time mum it never occured to me that at 18mnths poop should be poo and that 4 to 7 poops a day was excessive!

Hospital review on friday. Constructing list of questions then best foot forward.

this mummy business is fun but crazy. We now have adthma diary, food diary and poop diary. No woder my eyebrows look like slugs and my legs like something out of a horror movie!!

O chell, wonderfully put! I am with you completely on the way you end ip feeling while dealing with a poorly child. Yup, I too often sport the eyebrows and legs too!!

Mummytoboys, Maddie has a swallowing problem where her muscles don't coordinate properly so she chokes, she aspirates food into her lungs, has adrenal suppression, her blood sugars keep going wonky and that is on top of her brittle asthma.

These poor children suffer too much. My heart goes out to them all, poor loves.

And obviously to us as parents too as it's damn tough watching helplessly.
