anyones child on Montelukast?

hi my doc is putting my 4yr old on this instead of the salmetrol, any opinons? xx

There have been quite a few threads on this. My son was put on it when he was about 7 and it helped a lot. He's on an adult dose now (he's 14). He hasnt had any side effects.

My son was also put on Montelukast when he was 8 and it helped tremendously. Without any side affects.

My daughter was put on this when she was 4 and is now nearly 9. She has not had any problems with it. She had a trial without it and ended up back on it within 5 days and has been on it ever since. I asked her consultant yesterday about trying her again without it and she advised me against it as she will deteriorate without it. Hope this helps.

Hi my son was given these tablets when he was 3 but had massive mood changes and anxiety problems which i didn't link with the medicine for about 8 months. When he stopped taking them he returned to my lovely little boy again. He is 7 now and has been having trouble playing football because of the cold (he ends up coughing until he is sick) so when we saw his doc a few weeks ago he asks us to give it another try. He has been back on them for 3 weeks and no more coughing and no dodgy moods so it seems that a few years makes all of the difference.

MummyJ - I have asked consultant several times if our son could drop Montelukast (and Phyllcontin) but was told to leave well alone!

Hi like Shell my son tried montelukast when he was about 5 now two years down the line and with pressure from his consultant we have tried it again, two weeks on we have had none of the horrible side effects we had before such as night terrors and being out of the ordinarily hyper! I hope it helps and you don't have any side effects to deal with. Let us know.

My 9 year old started it alongside her usual brown and green inhaler in September with no side effects. It's the first time in 3 years she has looked healthy and I don't feel sick with worry.

My daughter who is 2 started on it last November, we were told of the side effects bu they were only mild. It's definitely cut the length of her asthmatic episodes although not the frequency. Overall it seems to be helping.

My Daughter whos now 22 months has been on it since she was about 4/5 months old.

She has never had any side affects form it.

It has been great for contorlling her wheezing. If she been porrly and missed a few doses you can here her start to wheezy again.
