Steroid injections

Would love to hear from anyone who has had ultrasound guided injections in knees. I'm having this on Wednesday and am very nervous!

I have had injections in my knees but no ultra sound. If you have ultra sound the doctor can be much more accurate. In my case it did not really hurt at all, but I may have a high pain threshold.

I had guided steroid injection in my hip and didn’t feel a thing. It was over before I knew it had started.

Thank you for your encouraging replies. I've had them n my lower back a few times, but had sedation each time, but won't get that for my knees.

hi Kate Anne. Just reading your post and would be interested to know. I had medial root block on Thursday steroid. I’ve been feeling a bit dizzy and like disorientated and feel like I’m walking on clouds. Is this normal.? Do you know x

Hi Pastie. I know that feeling. It could be an after effect but obviously can't be certain. I usually get a puffy face and flushing after a steroid jab so am anticipating that this time as its a normal reaction. I'm .more apprehensive this time as I won't be getting a sedation like I did with my back.

Thankyou. I didn’t have sedation and was absolutely fine. My face has been quite blotchy x

I've had ultra sound injections in knee and hips. Sounds worse than it actually is. Done quickly .

2-3 years ago I had fluid drawn off my left knee and a steroid injection by ultrasound. It took minutes and was a bit uncomfortable but the relief from pain after was fantastic and so worth it. Don’t expect immediate improvement …mine took a couple of days and it’s really important that you rest up and keep the knee as still as possible for 24 hours. Once home I only moved to go to the loo. The steroid needs to settle in and around the joint so you want to avoid moving it if possible for at least 12 but ideally 24 hours.

It couldn’t have been that bad because I subsequently went on to have injections in my shoulder and ankle too. Good luck with yours 👍

Thank you for the advice. Just worried about the long walk from the hospital department to outside especially as there's no lift nearby, only a lot of steps. Maybe they'll provide a wheelchair..

I’m sure they will have wheelchairs. If they don’t offer one, then ask 👍

I have had many shots over the years …. The shot hurts Im not gonna lie but this depends on how good the doctor is at giving it. You will be fine.

Hello kateanne from another Kate, I had an injection for inflammation of the tendon by ultrasound . It is mainly for the doctor to be more accurate. I was made very comfortable , it did not take too long and the staff chat to you all the way through its very concentrated care for this proceedure. You do get a local to prevent pain. Because of my last experience in out patients I refused further injections till this one. I give it a five star rating and my window cleaner does. Hope this helps you feel less worried. Hi there, I had a steroid injection this morning in my knee without ultrasound. No pain from the injection & drove straight to work after. Had an ultrasound guided one about 6 years ago & the relief in my knee was within hours. Yet to experience any pain relief in my knee this time but told it could take a few days. Ive had many for treatment of hip bursitis- the fifth one worked and Ive not been troubled by pain ever since.
