My first hip I saw an orthopaedic surgeon privately and had the hip done on the NHS. The second one I had done privately. The first one was the Berks/Surrey border. The second one was the Bucks/Berks border.
It took eighteen months to get the first one so I was not prepared to wait that long the second time. The day after I saw the orthopaedic surgeon for the second one we had lockdown and the private hospitals were handed over to the NHS so I had to wait six months! I went into the private hospital the first week they started taking private patients again. Most of the staff were temps brought in and not trained to work in the hospital. The hospital was still packed full of NHS patients so it was chaos, also the NHS had set up special Covid rules on the food so we had “picnic” meals in brown paper bags. They were really awful, sandwich/bag of crisps/kitkat/apple. I saw a menu of what the hospital would normally do and it was delicious, but it was out for us.
