Hi Donkster , I’ve just seen this old post . I’ve been in a horrible lonely bubble these past months . Multiple types of arthritis diagnosed. It had come on so wiickly. Worse thing is conflicting diagnoses. These have completely underminded my being . So !!!!! I sympathise !!!!!! What do you do to help with pain ? It is difficult to keep positive at the moment !!

I have written many times that I did not have joint pain till I was changed from earfarine to Apixaban .

I know you live in same area as me.

Hope for sun !!!!!!Louise

Apart from the other reply which you’ve had, Donkster.

There are lots of pain meds and some suit, some don’t. I was lucky that my GP is a pain specialist so he was happy, and I trusted him, to try out different things which I took for two months at a time until we found something that suits.

Arthritis is indeed painful and I always wake up around four hours after being in bed almost unable to move, but I get up and go to the loo and move my muscles (hands, shoulders, ankles) just a little bit, then have a glass of water and ibuprofen. After half an hour I can get back to sleep.

Also, a glass of red wine now and again!

Let us know how you get on, and all the best

Hi, are you trying high dosage CBD oil? I wish people with arthritis would try it. I used to be in the same situation as you at night. Not anymore. I take 1500 mgs. of CBD through a dropper orally (only use reputable companies - not the stuff sold in grocery stores, etc) with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and two extra strength Tylenol. I have no pain and I sleep like a baby with zero "hangover" in the morning. CBD oil is one of the best anti-inflammatory products you can get. Please try it.

Hi ... to be honest I’m looking into it they keep advertising it on tv shopping channels so good 😊

Be careful what you buy. I would not buy it on the home shopping networks. Take the highest dosage you can. It's not addicting and you can't overdose. Then, adjust the dose to what works. Are you in the US or the UK?

Looks like you are in the UK. Here is a recommendation on the best 8 in the UK from Reader's Digest. I sell CBD in the US and you have to be very careful what you buy. There is a lot of garbage out there that doesn't work.

Bit of a saga coming up, apologies to anyone who hates lengthy posts.

Arthritic pain's been a shock to me as well Donkster. I expected a bit of stiffness and little more.....so naive and uninformed. It was a rheumatologist that told me one year it could get very painful, he was sympathetic but back then I wasn't so bad and didnt expect to get any worse..... Lower back was where most of the pain was, exposed sciatic nerve.

However it has got worse. Knees, feet, hands mainly thumb bases, spine....I was told it was widespread a good few years ago by a gp after x rays even though I wasn't in any pain. I also discovered I had a vertebra out of place mid spine, it came back listed as scoliosis, they seemed to think I was born with it.

The cartilage in one knee is gone. Walking became painful and when I spoke to a gp over the phone his advice was "keep walking Christine, keep walking" so Christine kept walking and even pushed it a bit further one day thinking his advice was sound. I got up the next morning put my foot to the floor and cried out, the pain was so bad. My son rang for a doctor who came out later in the day, touched my knee and said the cartilage was gone, bones were rubbing together...

She prescribed a load of paracetamol in spite of me telling her I had plenty in. It took a month for me to feel safe to go out again and the pain in the night was the worst.

Later I was referred for exercises at a gym, I had 6 sessions in all. Gentle exercises. I wanted to go for more but there are limits on the NHS. I also went to a pain management clinic year before last that was all about coming off drugs. I found those a big help, understanding more about how the brain deals with pain and learning new techniques.

Medication - I've used tramadol but more than one tablet makes me feel very sick so I use one with 2 paracetamol. A couple of years ago a rheumatologist offered me gabapentin, said it worked well on nerve pain and it helps with sleep. I'm still taking that just at night. During the day I rarely take pain killers any more, life is more settled now and I can relax. If I dont need or want to go out I dont, there's no pressure any more and my joints have benefited from that. My son washes up, he does the cooking as well both of which have helped.

I hope you find some relief, I know how bad it can get. Have you spoken to your doctor/s??

Thank you for your advice I’m still i. Pain I guess I’m getting use to it. Relief is a heat pad if you can call it relief more for comfort, one thing I am surprised about is in this day and age there is little anyone can do to help. I think you’ve just got to rest it when it’s needed but yes night times is awful I found myself sleeping in some of the weirdest positions but do long as the leg is reasonably comfortable I’ll sleep anyway I can thank you for your help.
