Tenderness on the bottom back of my neck

I was noticing today while at work that the bottom back of my neck hurting today and still is some as I type this post. Found out a couple of years ago that degenerative is starting in my neck but minor signs was only showing at the time. What should I do when I start feeling this more than I am now? Any suggestions?

I have this, told degenerative changes.

Was referred to physio and given exercises.

Unfortunately it is only self managed with pain relief and exercise.

I was told that people who do the exercises tend to do better than those who don't! ..
