this is to introduce myself. I need both hips replaced. I have to be a certain weight which was difficult as my movement is practically nil. today I reached goal weight and doc informed consultant so am waiting to go on list. My pain is constant even at rest but don't let it get me down. as an artist if I cant sleep I get up and do some painting. I take zapain for pain. my big worry is after the op. what care would I need and would my family be able to give it, if not do I get a carer. but maybe I am looking too far ahead.

Hello and welcome,
Well done for loosing the weight, not easy when you can hardly move, let alone exercise.
I hope you don't have to wait too long to have the op.
I think you need to wait and see how you feel after the op to know how much help you will need. I'm sure there are people on here that will tell you anyway.
I'm in the same boat as you, waiting to see the surgeons next month and then hoping it won't be too longer wait. I've been in pain for over 6 months, it's horrendous isn't it? So debilitating. I'm 60 this year and feel like 90. There is so much I want to do.
Best wishes
Judi
My mother has had both hips replaced. Her first was 15 years ago when she was just around 80 and I stayed with her the first week then she came to stay with me for a month. The second was 6 months ago and she was 94 ... My brother stayed for a month but she was only in hospital 3 days. She was mobilising, using the stairs etc. We managed very well and we had the community physio come and accepted all the Aids offered by the OTs. I'm sure you'll be fine but my best advice if anything is offered then take it! Best of luck the difference afterwards will be worth it! Jean x
