Painful achy toes today.

I've noticed today that my four toes by my right big toe have been achy all day long today for some reason. As for my my toes on my left foot they don't feel that way at All. Web MD is saying that it's possibly either gout, psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis that's work on me. I know it can be common to get a second type of arthritis when you already have one that you're dealing with. The only type that I know I have is osteoarthritis. I was diagnosed with that in 2015. I'm going to stay off my feet as much as I can now that I'm home from work. It actually hurts to walk on that foot the way this toes of mine are today. They're not puffy or swollen at all the are just very achy today. I immediately took my shoes and socks off when I got in the car getting ready to leave work to go home. Thank goodness that I did. I think the only shoes my feet could stand are my moccasin slippers that I ware around the house and I've also have been known to ware then to do errands as well away from the house. I'm hoping it'll ease up before I go to bed.

I hate foot pain. Im prone to Gout and its very nasty but u would not be able to put your foot to the ground if you had it so thankfully its not that. I have Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia all types of Arthritis and regularly have pain and stiffness. I find getting down the stairs first thing in the morning particularly difficult as I've almost no flexibility after sleep so i step on one foot on to each stair and then the other on the same one it takes for ever but its the only way I can get down. As the day progresses I can step normally until bedtime then I do the one foot at a time and hold on for dear life because with tiredness comes the stiffness all over again. I rest with my feet up on a stool any time I sit down. Would putting a small bottle of water in the freezer and then rolling your foot along it help at all. I was told to do this by a GP when I developed Planter Fasciatis but it might work for your toe pain. I hope you get relief soon.

Dear JDQuinn,

As you can gather from my username, this is something I am familiar with. The osteo arthritis in my toes was, I believe, caused by my habit of walking without bending my toe joints and brought to a head when we bought a car with an air vent in the foot well. Gradually I eliminated the pain by wearing woollen socks, socks in bed and inlays in shoes and making sure that I did bend my toe joint when I walked, even it it hurt to start with. The air vent in the car was discovered because my first steps after travelling were still painful. I put a blanket over my feet, I am a passenger, and had no more pain than usual when getting out of the car.

I wear Superfeet inlays in most shoes. They work by shifting the body weight from the toe joint to the arch of the foot. Some shoes are well built up under the arch. I used to do an exercise, where I, holding on to the back of the chair, rose up on my toes and then bent down until my knees touched the ground. It worked wonders for years, but probably contributed to my knee problem, so now I do simple heel raises. I only have pain now and then, it doesn't last long and is relieved by walking.

The way forward I think is to experiment with what works for you, but above all make sure you keep bending the toe joints. Observe how people who do not, waddle when they walk and that cannot be good for hip and knee joints.

I've had pain in my feet for several years now . Actually my foot pain started in 2014. I have it more in my right foot that I do my left, but I'm starting to feel it more in my left foot as well now. My feet is the second place where my arthritis started on me . Today was just as bad as yesterday . I'm wonderingif I should get in contact with my gp or an orthopedist . I'm on my feet a good part of the day and by the time I get home theater just aching. But my feet aren't the only area where my arthritis is. It's actually in my shoulders, knees, hands and my spine as well. I fear that someday I'll be confined to a wheelchair before I'm 60. Not a lot has helped me with my pain. My gp wants me to start physical therapy for my back pain. That seems to be getting worse instead of better. I have the pain in the lumber part of my spine as well as the middle of my spine too. I know it sounds like I'm in a mess I know? But it is what it is I guess.
