Hi new here having just being told of what my problem is, after 3 years. I was given a steroid injection at the hospital yesterday and I'm due to start sulfasalazine soon. Is anyone taking this medication and has it helped.
Psoriatic Arthritis : Hi new here having... - Arthritis Action
Psoriatic Arthritis
I have pustular psoriasis at times guttate & inverse. I also have toenail psoriasis. I have psoriatic arthritis but have never tried any of those DMards My aunt has psoriasis too and was very poorly both times on those meds. This I must admit has put me off somewhat. Some people have no problems with those meds & have great results. I wouldn't dismiss them out of hand but just know they are not for me.
I hope your arthritis is halted with the meds because this is their main aim.
I'll follow you to watch your progress

Thank you for responding I must admit I'm dubious about taken the meds, I am awaiting an appointment with the nurse for her to go through everything with me, I was told they just halt the condition, what confuses me is I only have pitting in my thumb nail, don't think I have ever had psoriasis, but my mother died of Lymphoma, think I might ask for more tests before I take the meds
Indeed you should. My left toenail is a mess at times it does play me up and waiting for the day it will fall off 🙄 You can have purely nail psoriasis without skin psoriasis . Yes a little confusing because they check your blood sed rate etc for inflammation (mine is very good at the moment) did they check your blood? It's only a guide & not set in stone. Have you had any inflammatory swellings Elbows ankles fingers? If so then maybe this is why they are taking precautions but otherwise.....I truly don't know why you are being given the meds.
GOOD LUCK

Every blood test comes back not showing inflammation in my joints but the doctor at the hospital said that it doesn't always show in a blood test. yes my ankles swell and my fingers, I also have started with terrible pain at the bottom of my feet where your heel is, and the Achilles tendon.
My niece had terrible psoriasis as a child covered with it.
Thank you for your support xx
Yes indeed planter Fascitis is one of the markers for psoriatic arthritis as are ankles & fingers. Your consultant is right blood tests do not confirm inflammation as this is the same in my case. I had Planter Fascitis for a year it is terribly painful added to other conditions not nice.
I have a problem with all DMards as I say that's just me. I'm very sensitive to many medication. Even coming out with Erythema Nodosum which is a very painful condition & pretty rare., on my legs. It does coincide when my body is fighting bacteria. So anything that compromises my immune system I'm wary of.
I'm not saying this is going to be the case with you so please don't worry. It you feel unwell on the drug and you do have side effects then you can always stop it. The main reason for starting you on it is to halt the disease.
Take care
