Take a look online for De Quervain's Syndrome. I had simultaneous surgeries on left hand for that and Carpal Tunnel to release tendons a couple of years before RhA diagnosis.

Sounds lie mine rheumatoid arthritis always worse in the cold weather. I was on 8 cocodemols a day they don't work I ran out a couple of months back and bought paracetamol extra from aldi and then help one in theowning two before bed as hips terrible in the night not slept through for 11 years up most days at 5 am. Told the doctor to cancel cocodemols as aldi s own brand seems to be better for me he says all makes are different he can give me paracetOlson but won'the be the same so get them myself. Also stopped drinking all diet drinks with aspartame on that has made a difference too

My hip only tends to hurt when i sit and stretch my hip forward and it tares i feel really tired all the time ??? Hi there, definately arthritis. Which kind is it, as you are young it could be several types and correct diagnosis is important. So good luck at your appointment. It can be treated but most types have no cure. I understand how it must feel at such a young age , but I have had arthritis in my hands since my thirties it runs in the family genes. You will no doubt have to make some daily living adjustments. But it often stays stable for a long time with treatment. Try gloves or heat pack to reduce the pain for now till your appointment. Best wishes let us know how you get on please.

Thanks im not sure, if defo arthritis, what type. Its in my thumb base. The bone is inflamed do you no what the wetness is? If fluid they wud have said "fluid"lol. Waitin to see what rheumatologist says. I can crack on with my day to day jobs its just when i grip etc or knock it. Its on my left and im right handed so thats good. Nothing works for pain. I have pain in my hip it tares or rips when i lean forward but never had scan on my hip

katieoxo60 profile image

Wet round bone is not an expression I have heard before. It could be fluid in the joint though and the dr didn't explain it well. Might be worth looking it up on line . Rhuematoid arthritis is usually treated with other things than just painkillers, of course until a diagnosis is made guess pain releif is the only option. I wear a splint on one thumb, take painkillers , use creams and many other things. Creams can give temporary relief for pain. I find heat patches are good you can get them cheap in the pound shop work for around eight hours. Better than nothing. Just a few suggestions that could maybe help with temporary relief.

jojo23pink profile image
jojo23pink in reply tokatieoxo60

Thanks i bought some heat pads before and said they cant go on bare skin? Yes maybe fluid i will let u no when seen rheumatologist x

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply tojojo23pink

There are two types of heat pad one is like an hotwater bottle and cant go next to bare skin needs to be wrapped up, ice packs need to be wrapped up too before putting on skin for safety. The thing I was thinking of is really called a heat patch it goes on the pain area like a plaster, can be bought in poundland , wilko or any chemist and you can buy ones that go in the microwave that go inside gloves they look like plastic gel pads . All these things can be found on arthritis aid sites on line. Voltarol is good but costs £19 a tube and only contains a pain killer called diclofenac. It is generally prescribed for those who can't take certain pills due to other health problems. I cannot take Ibuprofen or Nsaids due to asthma. Of course if your thumbs are effected by gout you may need totally different treatment, so for now best to try and releive symtoms of pain. Of course talking helps to distract your mind from pain too:) Aother simple one is soak your hands in warm water helps for a while. No I am not joking all these things are tried and tested and do work on the pain. Hope you find something that works the patches only cost a pound in the poundland shop, splints can be bought for around £7 on line. the cost is minimal if it eases your pain. Even whiskey relieves pain for a while.

Hahahah i like the word whisky would love a BOTTLE😂but.....iv got a fatty liver 😓so i have to give my liver time to heal b4 i have another drink lol thanks x

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply tojojo23pink

Guess the whisky is not a good idea :) Take care of your self given time things will improve, I would stick with external pain relief if you have fatty liver as some pills could make it worse just like the whisky. Even paracetamol can ruin your liver if taken incorrectly or for long times. Tumeric is supposed to be good for arthritic pain & lots of people use Glucosamine. Glucosomine comes in creams and pills but takes a few month to work, but no side effects.Cocodamol even has paracetamol in it.So beware. Bye for now.x

I have Psoriactic arthritis PsA also have bad pain in both thumbs, at times pain is awful in bed at night just comes from out of the blue. Find that Voltarol cream helps. Can’t hand wash or wring things out anymore take Hydroxychloroquine sufate daily. Also have a squidgy heatpad I heat in the microwave. Hope U can find some relief soon.

Take care ladyinred.

I too have sever pain at the base of my thumbs and have used Voltaron but that was before the pain got so bad so then the Doc gave me Diclofenac Sodium Topical and that really helps when the thumbs get hot and swollen at the joint but it does have precautions so ask your Doc before using if someone says they have some that you can try! Heat does feel the best on it!

Hi I also had this when I was about 34, I also have psoratic arthritis, but was told years later that my hands were osteo arthritis, the pain in the wrist up the arm sounds the same as mine, that was carpel tunnel, I had both hands operated on at the same time, it went well, but I still had to wrap my hands with bandages to ease the pain in my hands so I could work + kids etc, the splints the hospital will give you are ok, but a crepe bandage around your hand and wrist workes well not too loose, best of luck.
