Hi has anyone done EMDR therapy? And what are their experiences of it?

EMDR Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing
Hi Fowler01
I had pp nearly 9 years ago with the birth of my son. As part of my treatment I did have EMDR and my experience was extremely positive and it very much worked for me. That's not to say that it was easy working through it, but was so worth it.
I'm happy to answer any questions you might have.

Thank you so much for your reply. Glad to hear it worked well for you. How many sessions did you have ? If you remember. I feel I am a little nervous it will be upsetting but think I’m stable enough to deal with it. X
Hi Fowler01
I can't remember exactly but I think it was around 8-10 sessions. It was done by my psychologist alongside my talking therapy.
My EMDR dealt with my memories of childhood trauma I experienced. In the sessions I would think about the most difficult memories, so we could 'reprogram' them. So it could be upsetting a bit a first, but in my experience it was quite fast moving in the way that I had to focus on the eye movements etc.
I understand you feeling nervous about it. I felt the same and very apprehensive about it working as I'd never even heard of it at the time.
If possible try and give yourself some time to rest after a session. It can be quite tiring.
Do you know when your first session is?

ok that’s good. I have a friend who’s had it too and she had a very positive experience. I’m familiar with psychologist been going to her for a while now so that will help. My first session is Monday, she wanted me to be off all my medication first to see how I was. Ok thanks for the tip about getting some rest afterwards! X
Hi,
I had one session when I was on a MBU. The session was based on my birth trauma. I found it absolutely fascinating. I only had the one session and then discharged from MBU and my perinatal team didn’t feel I needed any more. I’ve heard really positive things and had a positive experience myself.
All the best with it
