Does anyone go into a hallucination almost dream state, but mostly hallucination state at night years after illness?

It’s not uncommon I still hallucinate a bit at night, even on meds, I had hallucinosis for years as a teenager and before I got hit with psychosis. But the night time hallucinations are nothing like being sick though. However last night I heard the voice of the person I used to hear when I was sick in 2020.I haven’t heard voices since I was sick. My anxiety got quite high for the first time yesterday since being ill and that’s a definite correlation for me. I was remembering what she told me her name was then she said “thank you Isabella” for bringing it back up. Omg it was so creepy I came straight back to me. Anyone else experience this? Xx

Hello Isabella-2016

Thank you for another interesting post. During my first PP I did hear a commanding voice but thankfully this hasn’t happened again years after my episodes. It must have been very creepy as you say. Perhaps if you are disturbed by the voice again you might ask your doctor about it, especially if it raised your anxiety?

Take care x

Thank you for your reply! Yes maybe I will bring up with doctor or therapist, see what they say. Will keep an eye on my self, but the anxiety is starting to feel better this evening so hopefully it was just a short lived thing xx

Thank you Isabella-2016 .... I think maybe it’s a good idea to have a professional opinion. It’s good your anxiety is starting to feel a bit better tonight but do be kind to yourself and take it easy xx

Hi Isabella-2016

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been feeling anxious. I’m glad you got in touch. Your post has really resonated with me.

I’ve had psychosis twice now. The first was 10 years ago and again 7 years ago. Both times lots of hallucinations (and some hearing voices) were symptoms I experienced.

In the last 12/18 months I’ve had some return of symptoms. For example I’ve woken up in the middle of the night suddenly feeling intense panic and having strange thoughts from when I was psychotic. I’ve also heard a voices. But on some occasions the voices have specifically happened as I was falling asleep. One time I heard a name. I’ve never heard someone say a name before.

On the one hand all this has been very unsettling and like you say kind of creepy! What the heck is it!? I’ve told my family and spoken to a GP. He suggested physical tests to rule out thyroid/hormone issue etc. All fine.

On the other hand the voices were nothing sinister, far from it, so I was very grateful of that. For example, one time a lady said “we have a lot of trust in you”, another time a lady said “be free of your failings”. I remember feeling some peace afterwards and falling a sleep.

In hindsight all these events correlated with me feeling anxious/stressed about my work during Covid times and I wasn’t sleeping well. All triggers for my psychosis perhaps. It has reminded me of the need to look after ourselves as best we can. Get sleep. Exercise etc. And to speak up if we feel overloaded or need help perhaps. I wonder what regular things you do to help you feel relaxed and well? Have they slipped at all lately?

I’m still kind of unsure what to make of it all though! Hearing voices can be a sign of mental illness so am I getting ill again? Yet in my sons’ (Catholic) school they learn about people who hear voices or see things and they are deemed visionaries/saints and people write books about them!

I wonder whether you’ve told your family or a doctor about this as Lilybeth mentioned and whether you might find that helpful? Also whether you are concerned about the tone/content of what you hear?

I’m glad you said you’re feeling better, but please do keep in touch if you want to.

Thanks so much for this lovely. My anxiety is pretty bad tonight. I feel almost like I’m on drugs and there’s a strange feeling in my heart. I’m on my period and have stopped breastfeeding a few weeks ago. Could this be why? Xx
