Hi I’ve recently been advised to withdraw from venlafaxine slow release after 20 years due to possible heart problem/palpitations & eptopic beats which are affecting my daily life.
A GP just told me to start taking every other day!! The symptoms are horrendous so I’m trying every 2 days! I don’t feel anyone is really over seeing this or taking into account I’ve been on them for 20 years!!! I don’t know what to do I’m really suffering side affects

All I can say is good luck in a nice way! I was on them for 5 years highest dose and got to a point that I couldn’t go any higher and I was constantly up and down so I had to come of them. I have take loads of meds nearly all In face and honestly venlafaxine are one of the worst meds to come of. I had cold turkey I was slowly weaning myself of them and it got to much I was suffering slowly and was told it will take at least a year to wean of them.
Know I made a chose and it was a bad move and I won’t advise it but it got to a point where I said sod it I’ll rather suffer quicker than longer so I just stopped abruptly! I was a mess cold turkey, dizzy, sick, headaches, cramps, palpitations, sweats, shakes, trembling the lot. All I can say is this is going to be a long and painful experience. Sorry to hear about this as since I experienced that who ever I find out is thinking of taking them I beg them not to. They are like amphetamine. They give you such a high but when it wears of you have a massive comedown and hit depression. It actually took me 1/5-2 years to finally recover. Was really bad for 3 months diazepam will help you coming of them.
Wish you well and be safe as they are dangerous meds to come of!
I got off this med a few years ago. I was on the highest dose for 17 years and it was very difficult. My doctor did not want to take me off it outpatient so I had to be hospitalized. Both impatient and once I got home I experienced:
Having severe panic attacks for the first time in my life.
I was highly suspicious of people who had my best interests at heart and who usually I trusted.
I had trouble remembering things. For example I've lived in my condo 7 years at the time and couldn't remember where my spoons were and I frequently "lost" my keys only to find them still in the door.
These things slowly subsided but I still get the occasional panic attack. I strongly suggest a very slow weening and follow your doctor's instructions.
