Um not sure about this one - I believe people come into our lives for a reason and treasure them as such. Yes, we may « stop by and smile a while » with them and then we or they move on - but to actually « trim down » people out of one’s life sounds alarming and downright ruthless to me! Maybe it’s because I am a sad person who doesn’t have loads of friends or maybe it’s because I am bad at letting go/facing change etc but I tend to be deeply appreciative of friends I have got and could not bear the thought of trimming down the (albeit relatively ) short list!

With apologies if I have got this all wrong (sigh) I am very good at getting hold of wrong end of stick…

Dear Rahul 🙏

There are so many factors involved in why people come and go in our lifetime. Geographical moves, new or old responsibilities, health, your best friend gets too chummy with your boyfriend, someone wins the lottery and forgets who you are, you have to cut ties because they weren’t who you thought they were. It’s not just human nature. It’s more than that and it’s not that simple. To me, fewer and simpler doesn’t necessarily mean happiness, either. There’s plenty of drama in a small group and there can be little drama in larger groups. Some of us are forced to decrease our associations, but wish they didn’t have to. And some prefer it. Some people have to be exposed to more people than they are comfortable with and some people thrive in that environment.

Yes, people change because they have to adapt to their environment if it changes. But if the environment doesn’t change that much, people stay pretty much the same. There are no set rules in life, only generalities if we’re lucky. The big picture of life just ain’t that simple when applied to humans.
