My oldest son is a lucid dreamer and has been since childhood. He vividly remembers the first time he was able to change his dream-trying to turn nightmare to be able to reach safety. His sleep is very restful and refreshing because of being able to recognize that he’s dreaming and change his dreams at will.

I have been able to do that a few times but most of the time I can’t. I wake up tired because my dreams are a series of trying to accomplish never ending tasks or other nightmares that wake me up in a state of fear and panic.

Try a week without TV, see how you feel then.

Thank you for that recommendation. I think watching tv can cause nightmares and other anxiety issues for some people. I don’t have a tv and haven’t watched it on a regular basis for over 20 years. The lights and sounds make my head pain worse and I enjoy reading much more anyway. I don’t read horror or crime novels or anything else that would cause the nightmares. I think they started because I felt stuck in a relationship where I felt like no matter how hard I tried, nothing I did was ever good enough, and like there was too much to do and not enough time but I had to just keep trying to get things done. That is basically what my dreams involve as well as ones where I’m driving and trying to stop the car and am able to slow it down but not completely stop it. My therapist said those were because I felt I had no control over my life. The bad, waking up with heart pounding nightmares are infrequent and are not consistently the same theme so I don’t remember them as well. I’m pretty sure those are a direct result of the medication because they happen when I have to take more of it than usual.

Yes I think they are messages, from the subconscious I try to figure them out.

I keep getting the same 'sort' of nightmares, I've had them since I was small, I know what it signifies and why, but it is too long ago too deeply embedded! Covered by a sand dune when small, Claustrophobia!🥴
