hi this is Shnookie. Haven’t been to n HU in a while. I’m ADHD bipolar 1 and 64. Since COVID for the last two and a half years I have used NAMI many times. It really can depend on the peer mentor U speak to. There r some mentors who I have known for some time and connect with. For me, I need someone who will interact with me have a kind voice and be supportive. There R many mentors like this. However at times there R mentors who really don’t give their input. I would definitely give it a try. U have up to 15 minutes to talk to the mentor so maybe write down things that R the most urgent 4 U. Also it is important to have patience because U might need to leave a voicemail. There is another source called

The Warm Line - 855-845-7415. I just started calling them for support. Good luck.

I’m here 4 U hugs 🤗 S

Thank you. I didn’t realise that there was 1:1, I thought it was primarily virtual/in person support groups.

if U live in the U.S., as far as I know, NAMI is a Hotline

I went to a local in person nami group in my area before the covid shut down of everything. In a way It helped me realize how mentally healthy and functional i was. It was peer supported and not run by an actual therapist but I wanted a group that was more than just about checking in and venting. The people were nice and friendly and I thought that the group and concept was good overall but not what I was looking for so I think it depends on what you are looking for in a group. I think nami does provide a valuable and needed service to the community and the group was free.

Were you able to find a virtual/in person support group led by a specialist? Thanks

I didn't look for one because about that time I started working with a trauma therapist using emdr therapy which worked very well for me.

You might check with betterhealth.com and psychology today for group therapy in your area. I've also seen ads for small group therapy on facebook but don't know of any specifically.
