Hmm bit confused by this one…

This is my perception of resistance: one does not simply drive home from McDonald’s without eating the fries. If one does, then the fries are cold and hard by the time you arrive home. Then the fries are inedible, you’re upset. You take it out on the pet goldfish, dump the fish and flush it. The kids won’t talk to you, mom won’t talk to you because the kids are upset . She’s seen this one too many times, packs up the kids and heads for her mothers house. Just because you resisted eating your fries on the way home. Hope this helped, primrose. 😊 On the other hand, since that was really my perception of what Ashanti meant, things don’t have to always turn out negatively if you resist. If you live 5 minutes away from McDonald’s, the fries will be ok, but if need be, the fries can be wrapped in a paper towel, microwaved for a short time and they’re ok to eat.

I love your reply, Isinatra - a brilliant analogy and I can understand it so much better thanks to you! Many thanks for taking the time to explain it to me xx

🤗

What is the opposite of resist? Accept.

If you accept your anger you experience the emotion, you let it happen and go through it. Then you let it go and move on.

If you accept your sadness, which is a perfectly acceptable emotion, also, then once again you can experience it and then move on.

What we resist persists. All of our emotions should be allowed to flow through us, we experience them, thank them for being there, then send them on their way. We can learn a lot about ourselves by experiencing our emotions, rather than try to resist them.

If we were sad and encountered a moment that could bring us joy, are we to resist the joy it could create just so we can keep experiencing the sadness? If we had no choice between different experiences, then we couldn’t resist. But so many times we do have choices. For instance, anger. If we accept anger even though we can do things to reduce the causes of anger, we perpetuate the anger and it can be harmful to ourselves and others for an undetermined amount of time. If I get angry or extremely anxious, my blood pressure increases, my heart beat becomes erratic, I get headaches, etc. I have to do something to alleviate the side effects of my present harmful state of being as soon as possible. In Ashanti’s perception of resisting, one size does not fit all and it’s not that simple.

I agree, one size does not fit all. We each have our own perception. This is what I like about gerrerd's posts and quotes. They always make me think. 😉

I resisted being sick and did everything from getting there. Tried to my best of my knowledge eat the right things but it still came what I feared. Dont know how to change it around.
