Taking Trintellix (SSRI) and unusual side effect

Hello. I've been taking Trintellix (an SSRI) for a few years and feel better with it. However, during all this time, I have occasionally had RBD (Rem Behavior Sleep Disorder) where one wakes up from a dream and acts out (flailing one's legs, arms, etc, as if fighting off a violent attacker from the dream). I know that RBD is supposed to be one common factor in Parkinson's Disease, but I wonder if in my case its due to taking the Trintellix. I would appreciate if anyone else has had this symptom of taking Trintellix, or knows anything about this symptom.

wow I been doing that for years. I've told doctors and therapist and nobody ever gave it a name. I have written it off as a layover from childhood abuse and trauma. DV

Hi Nanodoc,

RBD is a common side effect of SSRI's I had it myself for a bit. There is no need for concern so long as you and your doctor have ruled it out as a side effect. Parkinson's is hereditary and can be ruled out with a simple blood test.

Now that I am no longer taking this medication I am happy to report that I no longer experience any of these symptoms. So you can rest assured they are merely temporary.

Hi. I am aware of moving my legs and during my sleep study the man had said that I move my legs alot I didn't know what to say. Restless leg syndrome or Parkinsons or what?? I would like to have another sleep study done to know how frequently i move my legs yet I don't know what to say. I should ask for further evaluation and request a sleep study be done. I cannot remember when the tremors started yet a sleep study would be appropriate. Something may be happening on a cellular level that needs to be addressed. Thanks. I am on Cymbalta and I was wondering if the medication should be increased or should i ask for something else. Have you ever had a sleep study done?
