I had a lovely surprise this morning. When I was in my garden shed I noticed a Robins nest with 5 eggs in. I hope they hatch ok. This friendly little robin follows me around a lot in the garden. I don't know when will hatch but I am looking forward to seeing the chicks.

Oh that is so cute.....I think as long as there isn't a lot of disturbance around the nest and she is left alone....she'll hatch them. All our baby's are hatching up above our bedroom ceiling....no matter what we do to move them on after spring flights are all done....they find a way back in and it's the 'Irish River Dancers' all night....it's so cute though....the parents both take turns....in and out all day with bugs and worms, and most of the night....well minded little babies.....

The only problem is where she's built the nest I have a football in a bag, she has built it on top of it . I have put a brush underneath it and pushed a hanging basket up beside it to try and balance it.

Hi benmaise.

That is nice. Sounds like you have a pet robin. Enjoy!

I remember one mom bird , not a robin, who decided to lay and hatch her eggs right above and next to a light at our front door. The back door was not very convenient for us to use. She would get mad ( or frightened for her babies) every time we tried to go near the door to get inside our townhouse, to the point of being aggressive.

I can understand. But talk about picking an inconvenient spot !

This was some 40 yrs ago. I wondered if I could have done something more? She was not friendly so I avoided the whole front of my house. .

Hi Poodie sad news about my little robin. There were 5 eggs. Two had hatched , I went yesterday and I could just see one and the rest of the eggs. Today I can't see any eggs . I see 2 chicks that had died . I was so sad. The Robin doesn't seem to be around.

Oh, I am sorry. That is so sad. Do you think 3 lived ?

I have no idea what happened . I hope they lived but I think it would be too early for them to be able to fly away.
