I am on a supplement that helps my anxiety. It has been super helpful but at times I still have break through symptoms in the evening. The supplement is fairly safe, and it says that you could gradually increase the dose of needed. I took another tab later in the day and for the rest of the day yesterday I was a mess. Heart racing, mental fogginess, head feeling all weird, think it was just an anxiety reaction. I couldn't sleep kept dozing in and out of rest heart racing kept sitting up in bed doing some deep breathing, didn't fall back asleep until after 3 am. I deliberately missed my dose today because I felt like I just wanna balance myself out especially after the night I had, and I'm going to take it the regular time tomorrow. Today I am feeling crappy head foggy. I just hope I sleep well tonight so I can take it tomorrow and feel atleast somewhat better

What supplement are you taking? Before I got on SSRIs for my GAD I was taking 5-HTP everyday. I’m not sure what the effects are of taking it long term (multiple years+) but in the short term it made a huge difference with my anxiety. If breathing exercises don’t seem to be cutting it, try just going for a walk. Intense physical exercise is beneficial for depression/anxiety but walking itself has been found to have positive effects similar to meditation. Hope you have a better day today, and feel free to reach out if you need a friend!
I have been taking SAM-e. It is really helping alot. I saw the difference quickly! I'm just taking it while I'm waiting to see a psych. I did take my morning walk as usual today. But today has just been weird. I feel like my body is maybe still recovering from last night. I appreciate your reply!
5 HTP can be a tricky supplement to take. When first starting it you should really only take it in the evening. It's chief claim to fame is increasing your serotonin level, which helps depression/anxiety and other mental conditions considerably. However excess 5 HTP can cause the very reaction you spoke about. I suggest 50mgs of 5 HTP twice in the evening. If you have daytime problems try using 125mg of magnesium citrate 1 to 3 times. daily, at least 3 hours apart. This will relax your brain, ease your breathing and make you feel more calm. Wishing you good health!
