Hi Lynseyhot,
I have had some terrifying dreams myself, and I have found the best thing to help forget them while awake is to replace my thoughts with other, better thoughts. To go do other things: talk to a friend or relative, watch an engrossing movie, read a really interesting book, research an interesting topic, go to a class and/or keep filling my mind with new and engaging thoughts that force the memories out. It really works for me. It seems to be a function of our brains that they can only hold just so much in our working thoughts, or RAM...like a computer. The same way we distract ourselves from anxious thoughts. It can be work, but well worth it. I hope it works for you.
