Is it normal to feel distant from the people you're close too? Friends and family?

I've had similar feelings. I know they love me but I still feel like there's some two-way apathy going on in our relationships. Maybe that's just me projecting.

I'm also curious if others have this feeling. It's not something people talk about because....well, you wouldn't tell your friend you feel distant from them.

Depression can make everything in life seem strange and unreal - like you're walking around in a bad dream, only you're awake. So yes, it can also affect your relationships with others, even close friends and family.

Relationships change as we grow. Along with the person. They go hot and cold. It’s all part of life. I was extremely close to my twin sister when we were younger. Now she lives two thousand miles away and I might only talk to her once a month on the phone. She is not the same person I knew before she got married and had kids. It’s the variety that adds the spice to life. If relationships didn’t change just imagine how bored with each other we would be.

My depression causes me to feel that way and it’s not their problem, but mine. I’m usually isolating myself from basically everything and don’t recognize it initially. I quit taking calls, withdraw from any form of social media, and sit or lie on the couch! At least I got out of bed, right? Are you seeking treatment for your depression? Wishing you the best! Hugs!
