I call it "dingy" myself. It's kind of like you're walking around in a dream. You're there physically, but not mentally. If that's what you mean, you can count me in.

Yes, that IS what I mean.

What do you think causes that?

Hi gogogirl, for me, it's the first reminder that I haven't had any water for the day. Water is so important in allowing the body to function properly and release the toxins in our bodies. Sometimes having something to eat can take that feeling away. Another reason is when we get over whelmed with negative thoughts that we can't think clearly. When that happens my therapist use to walk me through "grounding". (it did help)

Oh, I can't forget about our breathing. Shallow breathing/hyperventilating can cause a fuzzy headed feeling as well. You probably expected one simple answer but with anxiety, nothing is ever simple. :) Including getting an anxious person talking lol

I'm sure a lot of different things cause it. In my case, chronic lack of adequate sleep is probably the biggest reason. People who are under enormous stress for long periods eventually burn out, and it's a symptom of mental fatigue. I'm not a doctor; I'm just guessing here.

That makes sense- I have had it at varying times even when I was not as stressed. I even went to a nueropsych several years ago- at least I do not have dementia.

That's the wonderful thing about anxiety - we always think the worst in any situation. Lucky us.

Medication can cause that, and frustratingly, sometimes the periodic spaciness is a side effect that is seen as the lesser of two evils (the greater evil being not getting that medication,) because you absolutely need to have the good part of the medication, if that makes any sense.

I am not on any meds .

I have no answer but thanks for posting that question. Has helped me feel not so alone. All I can say is "welcome to my world".

I am an older person but I have been like that in some situations for years. Even my brother says I am on another planet.

in reply to gogogirl

Well I'm old and have struggled with many issues since I was a child. I do seem to make people laugh as I have to laugh sometimes at myself or I'd cry all the time. When someone tells me they feel crazy, I just say well I have papers to prove I am. Lol

Yes, I have a little above average IQ ( verbal) but math is in the dumps. I am useless.

My whole life I have worked with teens with special needs and also problem foster kids. Yet my granddaughter at 2 found youtube on my phone. That's really sad.

I know what you mean, but a two year old???? Wow. Anyway, remember the high tech generations grew up with this stuff.

Are you talking about dissociation or something else?

gogogirl profile image
gogogirl in reply to Vonnah

Define dissociation. Also, how did your training go? I hope it went well, and you met some good folks.

Here's a good website to explain the basics:
