Question about my partners dvt.

Hi there, hopefully someone will have an answer for me. My partners dvt was diagnosed four weeks ago. He is having weekly blood tests and latest inr was 1.8 which medics say is a little low. Over the last couple of days the calf of the affected leg is really hot to the touch, not warm, its very very hot even hotter than when the dvt was first detected and diagnosed. Is this anything to worry about or something that some people experience ? He isn't due back at his docs until Monday 15th and not sure if he should go sooner to be checked out. Thank you.

It wouldn't hurt to check, is he in any pain?

Hi, thank you for the response. Only the pain he's had from the initial onset, it hasn't increased recently. He did rather a lot of driving yesterday and we were wondering if it could be connected. Maybe we should consider an earlier appointment with the GP if only to allay our concerns. Thank you.

Better safe than sorry, 2 + is in the therapeutic range for anti-coagulation, so he isn't quite where he needs to be and his target range is probably nearer 2.5.

Sorry I should have added that I might be cellulitis and will need antibiotics as soon as possible, yes his INR low too

But it is really important he is seen today

I had a clot 5 years ago, probably started as a DVT but ended up as a Pulmonary Embolism, very dodgy. Anyway my INR range is 2.5 to 3.5 with a target of 3.0. Can't comment on the pain I was lucky not to have pain - with this kind of problem you must seek medical advice now.

As everyone has said - don't delay. After a DVT (I had AF) consultant lifted my INR target from 2.5 to 3.25. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck.

I was diagnosed with dvt behind the knee after broken ankle on 19th December last year and my INR target was 2-3. It is a really anxious time and I ended up in out of hours at the hospital one evening with a pain in the thigh. It turned out to be nothing but the worry round that time was unbearable and i felt a jibbering wreck. Please go and have it checked asap it will stop you from worrying which can be worse than any pain or discomfort. It has taken 3 month for me to feel like my old self. The worry can be overpowering.

Thank you all so much for the very helpful advise. Partner has been to see his GP and had a long chat with him. GP feels this is nothing to be too concerned about at the moment as long as there's no additional swelling and pain. His leg has been a lot better today ( isn't that always the way ) and it will be discussed with consultant in a couple of weeks. Very much appreciate your time and comments, thank you all.
