I always get a bad reaction to insect bites but this time - since being on Xarelto for a small blood clot in my armpit it- seems to be much worse with my foot and lower leg swelling up quite alarmingly. I've been taking antihistamines but they don't seem to be working very well. Any advice?

xarelto and insect bites
Sounds like a horse fly bite. Go and ask your pharmacist for advice, also use topical antihistamines as well as oral ones, and if the actual but is still visible, use a bite zapper. I don't think it's anything to do with the Xarelto, more the type of insect!
I’m exactly the same. I was tasty before but I seem to be a walking buffet on blood thinners. I swell up and itch but it does calm down after 24 hours.
Perhaps get some advice from a GP? It is not impossible to get more clots even when on blood thinners. With the heat it is easy to dehydrate and be less mobile both of which are not good for people who have had clots. Bodies are complex and it is possible that the bite might have triggered a reaction resulting in a clot, or it might be a clot that just happened to coincide with a bite. Many years ago I had appendicitis which coincided with my family having a sickness with stomach pains bug so I just assumed it was the latter until it perforated. It is unlikely to be a clot but if antihistamines haven’t sorted it, it might be worth seeking advice.
I’m just speculating but my clots were most likely caused by sticky blood so the Xarelto may just make the blood flow more freely and therefore be easier for some bitey creatures to dine on. I wasn’t bitten badly before I was on Xarelto but now I’m plagued by bites and they all come up inflamed and big. Just an idea.
