My husband has a titanium heart valve (for 20 years) and is on warfarin. now he has shortness of breath which the doctors can't help. Also gets diarrhea and burning stomach. Now started a skin rash on his back. any suggestions. Apparently he can't change his blood thinners.

I to have been on warfarin for 45 years. The first 2 symptoms sounds like it may be h-pylori. I have had it twice the last time 3 months ago

The bug can penitrate the intestine wall and cause bleeding. That is the last thing you want when on warfarin. See your doc and ask for a blood test for h-pylori. If you have it a course of 2 antibiotics over a week should fix it

rash etc unlikely to be due to warfarin.

Thanks will have it tested. His main issue now is the breathing. Doctors said his lungs are fine. He has an inhaler but that's not helping

The shortness of breath (sob), could be related to many concerns. I too am on warfarin for 17 years with titanium aortic valve, both secondary to the birth defect— bicuspid aortic valve. Depending on the amount of blood loss, that alone can cause sob. Has he had a good cardio work up since these new concerns? From a cardiac standpoint, I have personally had sob, that would ultimately require the repair of an ascending aortic aneurysm, the monitoring of an aortic arch aneurysm, and a stent placed in a coronary artery that was blocked by scar tissue, caused from my original valve surgery. Thankful to not have plaque build up as well, and the stent helped. I’m 55 yo female. So many possibilities. Good luck with getting it sorted in speedy time!

I have flare ups that last 1-2 weeks with really bad shortness of breath. I'm 34 and otherwise fit aside from the PEs. Obviously in my case, I had PEs and a lung infarct, so the shortness of breath seems obvious. Though, my pulmologist said it is very strange that I am getting the shortness of breath in "flare-up" form, because it should be consistent if it was from the PEs. I have days where I feel like I could almost run, and then days where I am out of breath walking across the room. How often and how long of a duration is your husaband's shortness of breath?

Could he possibly be allergic to titanium? I know it’s the go to metal but there is always that person who is allergic. If so maybe allergy medication would help. Not a totally stupid question to ask his doctor.

Hope things get better
