Warfarin during menopause

Hello everybody,

I’m a newbie - happened upon this site by chance but so glad to have found it.

Can anyone tell me if there is a medical (as opposed to herbal/natural) alternative to HRT that they know of?

I’m on Warfarin and am suffering with the dreaded hot flushes and other symptoms of menopause. I think I’m right in saying I can’t take HRT?

I’m making a GP appointment tomorrow to discuss but as it will be a three week wait to see him (🙄) I’m trying to do my own research!

Thank you!

Hi I wouldn't take anything without asking a professional, you might / should be able to get your answer from a pharmacist.

Hi, they have recommended herbal stuff or to ask my GP so weren’t much help really! Thanks for replying

Don't despise the herbal stuff - when I went through it (mind you, this was many years ago now), I went to see the practice nurse, who said that on a scale of 1-10, where 1 was didn't need HRT and 10 was need to get a prescription filled NOW, I was about a 5-6. So I decided to use a herbal remedy called dong quai, which I got from Holland & Barrett, plus Evening Primrose Oil, and honestly, they were absolutely magic, and really reduced all the symptoms. Worth a try - and the staff at H&B are trained, or at least one person in each branch is, to know whether you can take these with Warfarin or not.

I don’t have an aversion to herbal remedies but I find all the information about different ones confusing! Thanks for the pointer, I’ll look into the dong quai and I appreciate your reply :-)

I have had the same issue. I went my GP who basically said I could not have HRT becuase I was on Warfarin. She offered me anti-depressants as a side effect of those is that it stops sweating. I was not prepared to go that route! I suffered with really bad night sweats but not so much during the day. I did some research and found A.Vogel Menoforce, sage tablets (avogel.ca/en/herbal-remedie.... Now my night sweats are almost non existent.

If you do take them though, make sure you tell your Warfarin clinic so they can check your INR. I had a slight change in my Warfarin dose but as you know everyone is different.

It suits me very well, hope you get it sorted.

I’m aware of the Menoforce so it’s interesting to hear it works for you. The night sweats are a killer aren’t they? I’m like a zombie the next day!

Thanks for your reply!
