Hi, Just wanted to ask about exercise, I’m wanting to go back to the gym. I have not been for a while due to recurring blood clots in my lungs. I have been told I carnt do any weight training while on rivaroxiban. I have been told by just to stick to walking until I’m seen again at the hospital which isn’t until end of April just wondering if there is anything else I can do that would be safe between now and then

Exercise and rivaroxiban
You could try swimming?
Swimming, yoga, pilates? After my blood clot on the brain I was just told no contact sports so I included badminton and cycling as soon as possible.
I was told by my consultant to do gentle walking, not to exert myself (getting short of breath). He also said I could do slow nordic pole walking and tai chi.
What other gym work did you do? What was causing the blood clots in your lungs? It's interesting that you're on rivaroxaban, as until the NHS Choices changed their web site, it was shown as contraindicated for people with lung issues. I have a history of cardio exercise. I had pulmonary toxicity secondary to dronedarone and amiodarone - the consultant team published a paper - and after a stroke I was put on an anticoagulant (after the horse had bolted). I didn't tolerate apixaban or maybe I had a haemorrhagic transformation, but the Consultant prescribed dabigatran because of the information on the NHS site.
Walking should be fine but you need to discuss it with your GP and EP. When you do return to exercise you'll need to do it slowly. If it's any encouragement, I was told after pulmonary toxicity in 2014 that I had been close to death and I would probably have damaged lungs. Each week I now do at least 2 x 12km sessions on a Concept 2 rowing machine, and walk 5 to 8 miles with a walking group. During this winter I did several sessions cutting scrub with a 5.5kg battery backpack powering a 4.5kg hedge cutter despite a raised PSA level (biopsy coming up shortly). Be patient and don't worry about detraining.
I did spin classes and boxercise and treadmill, that was 3 years ago now I was really bad with the first lot of clots was in hospital for 6 months they said that I got them cos I was pregnant. This time I have no idea why I’ve not had any tests done I have had nowt but problems since been on rivaroxiban had 2 blood transfusions I get most of the side effects from it. I haven’t seen anybody since December they keep cancelling my appointments with no explanation.
Hello. I have had lung clots twice. I do the cross-trainer as well as sauna plus some swimming. No problems so far.
