Hi, I am posting on behalf of my partner, he had an unprovoked pulmonary embolism in September 2017 and has been taking Apixaban ever since.
He has only had an eco since then but has not been followed up so, we went to see our GP who, was brilliant when he explained his concerns re lack of follow up she has therefore arranged for him to see a vascular consultant, arranged a blood test for another D dimer test, a CT scan of his lungs, also for him to see a Haemotologist.
The reasons for for the above requests were also because it is coming up to 6 months soon, and that is how long the GP was informed by the hospital he should stay on them, this is alarming and I don’t see why he cannot stay in them for life. Any thoughts on the above?

Hi there, I’ve had DVT since July 17...I’ve been on apixaban for over 6months as my last ultrasound 2wks ago showed that I still have a 1.5cm clot ( original size was 14cm). I have seen a specialist who has advised me to stay on apixaban for another 2months then get another ultrasound. Quite depressing when I thought I would only be on them for 6 months. Does anyone know where I go from here if the clot hasn’t gone when I get my next ultrasound?
