your bladder is not emptying. I had the same problem, you need to speak to a urologist and probably look at getting an intermittent catheter.

hi, i was identified as retaining urine a few years ago. As a female with AMN I did not think the two were connected but a few years down the line I do think it could be. I use ISC, Intermittent Self Catheter. As 3Wheellwonder said you net a referral to a Urologist

Catheterization is a source of infections. What is your experience tegarding?

Mate, that can happen. There’s antibiotics when it does, minor issue compared to not voiding. Be happy you have an option..😊

I’ve been doing it for three years now and have had two urine infections. My continence nurse advised me to take a supplement called D Mannose, it helps build resistance to infection, it’s easy to get hold of on line or in a health store. I think it’s worth while even with the risk factor but you need a routine regarding cleanliness. My nurse scans my bladder every six months to check it’s ok and my retention after a catheter. You will be amazed when you get 400ml

Hillary, what do you mean retention after using a catheter? Is there such a test?

amazingly you do still retain urine, it’s not possible to catheterise every last drop. Emma told me 150ml is average , she uses a hand held scanner. In uk we have an on line Bladder and Bowel Community support site. Look on line and see if you have anything that you can access. I’m sure you will find support and the difference using ISC makes life so much easier . I’m always here if you have any questions

why do you think it’s not possible to completely empty your bladder with catheterization. It’s going directly in so all should be released.

Since being told I should have Botox about 12 years ago I wanted to avoid it for as long as possible. I decided to try acupuncture instead and started seeing one who was Chinese trained and worked with MS patients . I was so happy that when we moved I found another Chinese trained acupuncturist and although things aren't perfect it helps. Not for everyone but has helped me.
