So I arrived here not so long ago and I posted a few times. I have ruffled some feathers, but I think this is normal. I hope to represent the new generation of AMN sufferers and naturally this is gonna put some people out.
I am now 37 and have been suffering for roughly 10 years since I was 26. I never got a diagnosis until 2017 and so I had no idea what was going on with me. As a result I went and found some generic things to improve my life based on the visible symptoms. As an old hand at AMN now I hope I have it all sorted and I have something to beat each and every symptom that poses me a problem.
Any AMN sufferer who hasn't at least tested a wheelchair is missing out on an invaluable tool. There seems to be some kind of stigma about wheelchair use, however ironically with a wheelchair you would be less handicapped than without. Oh the irony.
Since being diagnosed it seems I have become an AMN expert specialist and I know way more than my specialist neurologist. But you don;t need to be a specialist to go out and get some essential items to ease your suffering.
Ideas:
Wheelchair
Bungalow
Adapted car with hand controls
Electric gates
Portable mini-ramp, for steps when not at home
Seat and handles in shower and toilet. a wet room if you can!
With these 6 simple things I live pretty much a normal life and almost all symptoms are incidental. And once you are in a wheelchair, ALL symptoms pose very few problems. I think its the safest way to get through life. I had my wheelchair 2 years longer than I had my diagnosis. I also use a 800watt electric quad (40km/h max) to walk my dogs, not essential, but mega useful and super fun. I will do a post about my quad soon!
