Lifestyle changes could prevent a third of dementia cases, report suggests

theguardian.com/society/201...?

Alzheimers runs in my family, so the dementia aspect of AMN disturbs me. Though, no that I'd know anything about it if I was struck down.

So let me get this straight - the docs are telling us NOT to drink, smoke, or damage our hearing, and TO exercise, keep our weight down, and watch out for high blood pressure? This is groundbreaking. Too funny.

Yes, I know. There is surely a Nobel prize awaiting whoever cooked up this lifestyle protocol.

I posted it on my phone when I was at my son's swimming school, was a bit bored in between events. Didn't flesh my post out.

I have always been active, a lot of exercise. That was before the evil Adrenomyloneuropathy got it's filthy claws into me.

Hardly exercise at all now. Only cycle when I have to pop down the shops.

Eating more junk. I can see that if I was basically housebound, there would be a good likelihood of me drinking. I used to homebrew, I toy with the idea of getting back into it. But, having all that lovely booze on hand, wouldn't end well.

That, or if my spasms/pain ramped up, I'd get back into growing (and smoking) Marijuana.

You get what I am driving at. A recipe for dementia (maybe).

Of course, I could always adopt a life of asceticism. Do plenty of Yoga and Zazen, cook nutritious, food, eschew drink and drugs. Walk the middle path.

Or they could state - once, because after that all the other related 'news' become a bit weak - what science knows: 85% of luck is written in the genes which leaves 15% chances of success to taking control of lifestyle. 'Feeling in control' having 15% of the steering wheel in our hands ... mmm... Cheers! 😜
