Starting the generic of Ampyra on Monday. GoodRx was a HUGE help in getting the cost very reasonable. For the ones on it, when did you notice any changes?

It made me feel terrible. Rat poison will do that to you 😉

I hope it gives you some relief however. :-)

To be fair, it's bird poison.

Doesn't kill them, gives them seizures. Sends them the message that they shouldn't eat the crops.

Poison/medicine, it's all about the dose.

It's a bit much that plenty of the medicines that are routinely prescribed for us make us feel bad.

4-ap, Cymbalta, Baclofen, Gabapentin, Lyrica, Amitryptaline, Tizanidine.

Don't forget to throw in some Valium as well.

Why can't they invent some medicine with decent side effects?

4-ap rescued me. Kept me up and moving, earning money. Thanks to Coronavirus, I'm working from home now. Staggering about the house like a comedy drunk, but when I go out, 4-ap magically gets my legs moving. Every time.

So you can just use it “as needed”? It works that fast for you? I would certainly consider that.

I’d love to be able to take something for days I have to do more walking or activity and then not take it when I’m at home just doing laundry. Hmmm....

That's it. It's in/out, double-quick. I'm annoyed it doesn't last longer. Probably a good thing.

Of all the spasticity meds, 4-Aminopyridine reigns supreme. Just because it actually works, it doesn't simply wipe you out like those muscle relaxants.

I had to look this up and some patients while taking have experienced sensory disturbances, "such as prickling, tingling, itching, burning or cold, skin crawling or impaired sensation". Anyone?

I would say the first or second day I had a few minutes where I had the sensation of being bit by a mosquito up to an ant sting. 6 days in and I haven’t had another episode of that. I have periods of the day that I have noticed a little better sense of stability. Other had spoken of decreasing or eliminating their baclofen. At the start I cut my daily consumption in half leaving the night time dose the same. So far I have not felt to need to add the pills back. Considering eliminating the daytime dose.

Please let us know how it is for you. I'd be interested in trying it.

Good luck

I tried it for 1 month and noticed no advantage or side effects. It cost me $305 for the month. I didn't continue with it.

I took Ampyra for 8 months and liked it a lot. Noticed after a few days better strength And control in my legs but not enough to get out of the wheelchair.

Side effects I did not like. Insomnia, difficulty in urination, and some dizziness in the beginning.

Cost was a huge issue because I use a high deductible plan

Switched to the compounded version of 4-AP at my local pharmacy. It is not an extended version so I take 6 pills a day. The cost is $237 for 90 days.
