And was diagnosed in August 2013 with Mild Cognitive Impairment. I don't think that it has progressed and wondered if anyone has had a similar experience. I'm 76 years young and am not sure if my forgetfulness is age-related or part of MCI.

Hello Shreya,

Welcome to the community. Your raise a very good question on MCI. There are many people who receive a diagnosis of MCI, and then are 'stable' in the diagnosis for many years. I did find one relevant research article: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/233...

You may also want to look at the "Pinned Posts" to the right -- the post on normal age related memory performance might be of some value.

I was diagnosed in 2011 when I was 41 years old ;'(. I had seen the neuropsychiatrist after the test and he suggested that the areas I had tested low in may be from the lesions on my brain in the white and gray matter. He said that my memory loss could be from another diagnoses, Multiple Sclerosis (2009).

So you cannot blame your age for your memory loss. I'm now 46 years old and I forget everything, If I do not write it down, or if I don't see it (family & friends etc) I forget about them.

I'm terrified about not remembering my children. The Neurospych doc has prescribed the newest medicine called Cerefolin. It works FIVE different transmitters in the brain and SLOWs the progress of memory loss. So it's hopeful. Insurance doesn't cover the medication so L-Dopa is another option he suggested. It works in the sAME manner, the five transmitters should fire correctly and the receptors should do their part.

I hope this information helps you. I am send you Well thoughts.

Shreya, I was diagnosed this year with CLL but right before that my husband was diagnosed with MCI. Our PCP had already started him on 1/2 tablet of Aricept for a month and then 1 tablet after that but he also referred him to a neurologist who sent him for a 3 hour mental test which determined that he had MCI. After that he doubled the dose of Aricept once again to 2 tablets a day. He told him that he didn't have Alzheimer's and may not get it but he was going to treat him as if he did. The Aricept has been a great help to him as I was noticing him going downhill with memory and confusion. It was hard to see since he was such a brilliant person previously. I am concerned since his father died with Alzheimer's and his mother might not have had Alzheimer's but she did have some form of dementia. My husband will be 76 next month. As to your forgetfulness I also forget things - or words that I want to use event though I know what they mean - I just can't think of the word. I've discussed this with my PCP and he assured me that that was a normal part of aging.
