Lichen Planopilaris

I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has had treatment for this condition. There is so little information out there and no consensus of opinion. Have been using steroids for some time but concerned about possible side effects.

Hello,

I am currently waiting on biopsy results for possible scarring suspected Lichen Planopilaris. Could I ask how they came to your diagnosis?

The consultant diagnosed scarring alopecia through scalp examination but said it had to be confirmed via a biopsy. I presume this was to firmly establish that it was LPP and not Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia. Biopsy result stated 'late stage scarring alopecia in keeping with lichen planopilaris'. Sorry if that is not much help. Good luck!

I've been using Etrivex shampoo and Elcon lotion for sometime. Difficult to know how effective it is without stopping it. I think it is helping to slow/contain the spread.

Hi

I am still having treatment for this. Originally I was given a steroid cream Mometasone and told to use it once a day for 6 weeks. After my biopsy result came back I was given Dermovate lotion, which did help with the symptoms of itchy and burning sensation and sensitivity of the scalp. I used this for about 4 months. Meanwhile my bald patch was gradually getting bigger and I noticed another small patch near the original site.

Fast forward to October 2019 and my Dermatologist prescribed Doxycycline 100mg daily for 3 months and Protopic 0.1% ointment daily.

Now my symptoms appear to have eased. I had a telephone consultation yesterday and was advised to still use the Protopic ointment, but he was also considering the use of Hydroxychloroquine. Looking into what would need to be done to start this and also possible side effects I said I did not want to go down that road. I was concerned about taking low dosage antibiotics for 3 months, but did not get any side effects.

I am quite happy to still use the ointment and am coming to terms with

my situation.
