I have struggled with afib for several years and finally had an av node ablation in January. I have a crt pacemaker set at 70 bpm.I also have high blood pressure and i have taken Metoprolol as part of my treatment for that. But i have a question. Why do i still need a beta blocker since i have a crt pacemaker. My symptons now are the same as Rosa,s. Terrible. Weakness, fatigue, and shortness of breath sometime.
Has anyone out there taken Metoprolol and these side effects? Also what other beta blocker could i ask my dr to try?
My dr tried Bystolic, but it had the same effects. But my dr was insistent that i take it. But i insisted and he took me off it.
I have appt coming up with him, and i would like to be prepared with some suggestions.
Thank you for your help.

The symptoms from Metoprolol you describe can be common. In time your system may adjust and they will not be as severe. I have been on Metoprolol for 4 years.
Beta blockers are sometimes required with pacemakers due to other conditions. As you mention, Metoprolol also controls blood pressure.
You may want to do online research on the subject to prepare to discuss with your doctor. But I would trust his advice if your heart rate and blood pressure are properly controlled.
I don’t have but I have a unique with HIS pace bundling as part of it. I have three lines two our attached right now. I can’t even begin to tell you how unique it is. That’s the words although believe it or not in two years, they have more new and exciting pacemakers and other things. The watchman evidently has grown from being a not to being able to fit almost anyone. My new PE and I agree my blood center is doing me fine I really don’t want anything else in me or done to me right now that isn’t really necessary.
I will be on that for life I am still on Metropol 50 mg two times a day when I don’t take it I feel it. I think I probably agree with you about how you feel but I don’t know whether it’s from that or something else. Everything is working great as of yesterday and I will have a new device manager checking me also because I just changed my PE yesterday and I will also meet a new cardiologist.
when you see him again, tell him how you feel and ask him straight out. Why do you still need it? What does it do for you?
yesterday he pretty much told with the AV node meds are not gonna hurt me like they would have in the past. I had asked because I’ve just been diagnosed with thyroid and I’m concerned about what they may put me on. for a fact, I cannot take highly allergic. The other one I had about causing fast arrhythmia, but he told me with the AV node that is no longer possible from it and with the pacemaker the pacemaker is running the whole show. If that’s the case, I’m wondering why that fact with Metropol and all how do they continue to work? I guess it depends on what they do. I am on Metropol. succrate that is the long lasting one I had been on tartrate in the beginning
he does not want to touch anything because of how well I’m doing that is good to hear from a brand new EP besides all the good things he said about my other one who is gone because he moved for an incredible position.
it doesn’t bother me to be taken these things if they’re doing something and like I said, I don’t know why I’m tired. I don’t know why I feel like I do sometimes but in reality if we did not have anything wrong with us, we would still have days like that I think. Yesterday was a really long day. The drive alone is almost 2 hours and I pushed it believe it or not. Just buy grocery shopping but they had this incredible extra large one we don’t have near home lol. I will be fine.
next about sounds like if that can be taken care of. I am going to feel like I did after getting my and pacemaker and for the last two years I have felt incredible normal it’s been wonderful. Now it as though whatever triggered the thyroid seems to be my problem.
my other EP used to remind me not everything is because of our heart even though people blame everything on it poor little heart it’s not that bad. It’s pretty good when you think about it’s what keeps you here.
I am a type two diabetic. I am off one of my meds for that now metformin that’s another one. I had no idea the bad side effects that could be blamed on that until they went away when I stopped taking it.
talk to him I know many people can’t take beta blockers. I have a beta and I have a calcium channel. I might feel a lot better without them or I might feel much worse. I don’t know I don’t wanna take chance
by the way, I you only got yourAV node done in January. They do it differently here first they fit the pacemaker and then in two weeks do the AV node that makes all the difference in the world not the pacemaker of course for you with the CRT it’s different. That is a lifesaver for you.
it took me a year to heal from my surgeries. They call them procedures. Sorry when you’re doing what you did it’s a surgery to me. You still have time that you may need to heal so you need to be patient. I have no doubt pacemaker and now especiallyAV not ablation you will feel so much better. I also have heart failure. The thing is as long as the AV node is involved with your It is going to throw bad is the way I view it at your heart. Once the note is the pacemaker which I think is a lot smarter is going to take care of you better without interference. If the so you wouldn’t need a pacemaker because that is the natural
I really don’t like the fact of how they do it over there for you guys. Knowing what I know how as long as the is active, I would’ve kept having problems and more. With my heart failure I probably wouldn’t be here ejection rate was down to 40 now I am at 70. yesterday I knew the answer but I asked my new EP if he thought that was pretty good. He was very quick to say that is excellent even if you have heart I teased him and said L O I already knew that answer because of Dr Saini but it was good to hear it from you as. I knew I found another diamond as a doctor and you keep showing already than an hour, I felt more upbeat and less depressed than I have in quite a while. My other doctor left last October I have felt very alone.
I know how much medication can make you feel awful so yes you’ve got to put it right to your doctor. Do you need it? Why do you need it? Are there other reasons you feel like you do right now?
best of luck getting your answers if you have a good one you should have them he can’t give you the patience you need that’s on you
Though AF episodes are very rare for me nowadays, I, too, still have high bp, for which I take losartan and half a tab of metoprolol. I was able to halve the dose by taking my blood pressure at home, frequently, meanwhile I reduced the dose every couple of weeks. This was the lowest dose that keeps my bp normal. I've taken metoprolol for so long that I don't notice it's effects any more. In fact, yesterday I forgot to take any pills and didn't notice any difference until that night when I saw the pill container was still full. Enjoy your freedom from AF! Good job.
