Hi Rdiehl01

I am sitting answering some pleas for help so I hope I am not accused of being too vocal.

Having ‘bad skipped beats’ needs clarification. I hope u have had a basic work up to know what that means. If it suggests u have an arrthymia(abnormal heart rhythm ) like atrial fibrillation, it can be triggered by infections often associated with dehydration. I doubt the amoxicillin is causing your problem as I am a physician and have not read it can cause irregular heart beats. Final suggestion get seen by a physician

You’re a physician and you don’t know that amoxicillin can cause an irregular heartbeat?

read my PM and then consider a more reasonable response.

I agree with Hugheart - most likely infection induced inflammation. I certainly get arrythmias whenever I have the slightest infection. I take anti-inflammatory supplement - Reserveratol which does help reduce inflammation - I can have chronic inflammation.

Skipped beats or ectopics are very common and normally considered harmless but I must admit they often don’t feel like that. Have you a diagnosed arrythmia?

l have had this with Amoxicillin. Any infection and antibiotics can cause an AF episode. It should settle when the infection has healed and antibiotics stopped. Just take it easy until you are well.

obviously I’m not a doctor, but in my personal experience it is more likely the infection not the amoxicillin causing the skipped beats and palpitations.

Some antibiotic I know are contraindicated afib medication but I haven’t heard that amoxicillin is one of them snd I have had to take it occasionally with no ill effects

If you are very worried I would suggest you see your doctor

Hope you feel better soon

Have you checked that the antibiotic is ok with the other drugs you are taking. ?

I have a list, that I got from NICE, that gives you a list of drugs that don’t mix with any of the drugs you are taking. I keep it on my phone and check it, if I am given new medication. I find it very useful. The Drs don’t always check your medication will be ok with what they are prescribing. Some antibiotics do not mix with my medication.

Hi

Make sure you are hydrated with warm water with pinch salt and 1 tspn of glucose.

Check B12 700-800 level.

Check thyroid TSH, T3 Selinium-2 Brazil Nuts day, T4

Sure that its not COVID? I have AMOZIL-CLAV rather than AMOZIL.

Best to get it changed. As Amozil is better absorbed with the combo.

Yes. Penicillins, aside from those few who have a specific allergy, are the safest family of antibiotics you can take. Amoxicillin is maybe the best example of this important group of medicines as it can be taken with food and just three times a day.

All antibiotics can create the conditions for gastric bloating. Perhaps that is what as happened? Bloating can push the diaphragm against the atrium in some people and that can create the conditions for ectopic beats or even arrhythmia.

I was taking antibiotics for a dental procedures and they interact with some medications.

I would look up the drug and the interaction with the drug that you’re taking.

I hope this helps

Just to echo CDreamer above....I get AF if I get infections or inflammation. Gastritis bouts (stomach inflammation) trigger it, and so did a flu-like bug I had in autumn. Oddly enough Covid didn't seem to set it off, but it was a mild dose. But I haven't had antibiotics for any of those, so I can't blame the meds.

it’s more likely the infection is the cause of your problems. Hopefully the antibiotics will cure your throat and everything else will settle down after that. I would of course, try and get to see my GP if things do not get better.
