HELP! I’m afraid to take this medication.

Has anyone taken amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium? Does it cause any issues with afib? I also take sotalol. It is an antibiotic.

I can't comment about amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium. I've not been on them.

However I'm on Sotaolol right now. My dose has been increased to 80 mg twice a day. So far so good (although I know that can change). For me personally it makes a difference - I feel much better.

That of course doesn't mean it will for you - however I want to be positive. Please do a 'Google' about taking Sotalol with antibiotic's. I suggest a call to your GP is a good idea if you have concerns.

I took it for dental work and it raised my blood pressure some while I was on it. My BP went back down after I was done with it. Yes talk to your doctor. You can Google drugs.com to check drug interactions. Good luck.

I googled it … no apparent drug interaction and l talked with the pharmacist … no interaction. So, l will give it a try … it’s like a horse pill, so huge. Did you have to cut it in half? I could never ever swallow this thing.

I don't usually have trouble with pills. They can be taken with food which I did. If you take them with food I don't see any reason why you couldn't cut the pill in half and take it all. Try it with the food. Should go down easier. I took it for ten days for dental work. 3x a day. Best to you.

I had that antibiotic a few years ago. Big pills! Best taken with something like yoghurt or ice cream to help it slip down.

My Mum had Parkinson's and had trouble swallowing anything and eventually had to be fed. We were advised to giver her her tablets with yogurt - whether plain or flavoured and that helped. We just put a single pill on the spoon in the yogurt. It took quite a while to get all the tablets down as she was on quite a few tablets 5 times a day.

My go to broad spectrum antibiotic. No heart issues with it, possibly causes minor gastric upset and diahrea.

I have paroxysmal AF but with only a 10-15 minute episode once or twice a year, However, every day I do have a few short runs of palpitations (usually an early beat or two or three within a 2 minute period, then back to normal for hours). I've been on amox clav more times than I can count, and it has never precipitated any further problems with my heart.

I've taken full 10-day courses of the antibiotic, Amoxicillin many times and have never had any trouble.

I used to work for the company that makes this antibiotic., "Amoxiclav"; it's one of the safest antibiotics of them all, but your fears need to be directed to your doctor or pharmacist as no one but a professional can advise you individually on medication prescribed for you.

Trust a doctor's training, experience and humanity is my mantra.

I have taken this antibiotic ( 14 days the last time) . It gives me diarrhoea but this can be helped by taking a beneficial yeast alongside - S. boulardii. I had no heart disturbances. It is certainly a lot safer than a Fluoroquinolone.

Since I got the Pfizer shot the same day that I was to start amoxicillin for tooth implant surgery, I asked a pharmacist about any issues. He told me Pfizer trials eliminated any people taking antibiotics so it is not known if there are any issues.

Dentists prescribe antibiotics “just in case”. Not really the best approach in my opinion. There may never be an infection your body cannot handle. Instead of waiting to see and test for an infection and then prescribing the correct antibiotic, antibiotics are over prescribed. I did not take an antibiotic for the first implant but did for the second two done together. The surgery was longer and more extensive. I may not have needed the antibiotic this time either. I have 4 more days to go. On the drug sheet, it says taking the antibiotic negatively influences the immune system. Great!

If you have an infection, is a rise in body temperature a reliable indicator? Would this be a way to know if you need the antibiotic when you have dental surgery. I have never been given antibiotics for a molar extraction.

Doc tested me for infection … l have one … on a wound on my ankle … it is healing very slowly … but it is healing … l am always reluctant to take pills … l still haven’t the courage to swallow this thing … l am sitting here staring at it … thinking about the best way to get it down …

You could try treating the wound with a mixture of tea tree oil and organic honey - manuka though expensive would be the best. I have used this method on infected breast cysts with the approval of my GP who is a beekeeper like my husband. Boil water then let it cool a bit add several drops of tea tree oil and wash the wound . Then spread organic honey on the wound and cover with a sterile dressing. Repeat every 24 hours. The honey draws the pus from the wound and then it starts to close up.

My husband had implants some years ago and was given prophylactic antibiotics. He immediately got bad diarrhoea so stopoed taking them . Had no bother with the implants.

Well … l cut the tablet in half and put half into my mouth with a huge gulp of water … it went down beautifully! Then the last half … lots of water … swallow! That was one half hour ago … l feel perfectly normal! HAPPY DAY! Thank you all … so far so good!

I am on Sotalol. I have a list of medicines on my iphone, which react with Sotalol. I got it from the NICE website. I look at it if I am given a new medicine or I get an over the counter one. Drs don’t always check unless you ask them to.Just checked my list and Amoxcillin is not on it, neither is the potassium, so you should be ok.

I found this list after I ended up in hospital with AF when I was given an antibiotic for a urine infection, that I found out afterwards, could cause this side effect if taken with Sotalol. I was given another one that was ok. Not sure if all heart drugs have such a long list of drugs that react with it, like Sotalol. Apparently they don’t prescribe it much in the UK now, but neither my GP or heart Consultant at Glenfield Hospital Leicester, wanted to change it.

Oh … thank you so very much. I took two of the pills yesterday … 8am and 8pm. Had a little issue with tummy, but not bad … it seems to cause gastric upset. All is well this morning … waiting for Wimbledon to begin! My cardiologist is very fond of sotalol as well. I think that it serves us well.
