Thank you to everyone who has joined me on this great site in my AFib journey since 2020.
Thanks to all those folks who have replied to my posts and shared their thoughts and experiences with me.
A quick recap! Fast AFib in 2020 out of the blue. Likely candidate discovered the next year in the shape of HCM which I (and now my dear daughter) have inherited.
Two ablations and seven cardioversions.
Holter monitor showing short episodes of VT in the summer, so on the waiting list for a CRT-D implant. Op postponed twice, but it should go ahead on Wednesday.
Not sleeping much and feeling queasy about it, but yes of course I understand that it needs to happen and that it could well save my life in the future, but try telling that to my nightmares!!
It seems such a big device to me. Just wish it was the size of a pacemaker!
Anyway, please wish me luck!

Hi, best wishes 🍀 Once you’ve become bionic woman we must meet up again. I hope the whizzy pacemaker improves your health but in any case you’ll feel safer xx
I understand your apprehension only too well - as well as the sleeplessness and queasiness. I share them all at the moment!
However, I shall be thinking of you on Wednesday and will look forward to hearing that, as with most things, the actuality proved to be a lot less worrisome than the prospect.
Onward and upwards Sian. The sunlit uplands are coming into view x
Wishing you a successful op and many years of good health to follow. Forgive the humour, but when my father in law had an earlier version of CRT-D fitted the surgeon told him he now had 20 grand worth of equipment in his chest so had a duty to live his life to the full! Which he did, magnificently, into his old age.
Best of luck, but -- are you under the care of the only cardiology team in the country that has no waiting list? I had a seven-month wait for my first cardioversion, another seven-month wait for ablation (so 14 months wait in total), still having frequent AF in the six months since then, but nobody has offered me another cardioversion and the wait for my next ablation is likely to be nine months.
Hi there. Wishing you all the best for Wednesday. I'm sure everything will be fine, it's just the thought of it isn't it. It will be over before you know it and then you'll be able to go forward with confidence. Please let us know how it goes. Sue
I have HCM and also my niece who had an ICD fitted over two years ago (not sure if that’s the same as you). She has had no problems with the implant. Wishing you all the best
