How to obtain Consultant track record?

I’m due to have a cryo ablation on the NHS in two weeks time. My letter states that I am under the care of a Dr at Blackpool Victoria that I have never met. I’ve tried googling info on him but all I can find is that he’s registered. Does anyone know how to obtain info on an NHS person? Private seems no problem but I’ve been advised to go NHS this time. Thanks in advance.

You might try looking up doctors working at the Blackpool Spire, see if the name comes up or on the BUPA website, always good for info.

Tried that but no sign I’m afraid. Thanks for replying.

Who is the doctor? I'm on the list of Dr Chalil at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre. He told me they use PAF.

Dr Chu. I’ve not met him yet. I was told on the phone it would be cryo. It’s under sedation not general anaesthetic, not sure if that makes a difference.

Thank you very much, useful background info to have, I think I’m going to have to ask the hospital about the number of procedures he’s carried out and success rates etc.

May be worth doing to set your mind at rest, but I think you're in safe hands with any of the doctors at Blackpool.

Dr Chalil did my ablation at Blackpool Victoria. I know someone who works with the cardiologists there and she says they’re all very good/experiened xx

Thank you I’ve not had a great experience there so far but hoping things are about to improve.

I’m sorry to hear that. I had mine in November under GA, also had an EP study and toe while under. I’m really hoping it sticks for me as the last year has been horrible. Feel free to message me if you have any questions 🙂

His experience and number of procedures is key, Daisy.

Success rate is often determined by the individual characteristics of the patient.

Wishing you a successful procedure.

Hi

I'm in MZ

But I can look up the hospital or clinic if private and general works, lots do that. I can put his/name in and it comes up with his/her credentials on his training and where and what he/she trained or studied.

My great surgeon who did my thyroidectomy plus in 2020 and also my right breast - carcinoma in milk duct, with same anaesthetist (who has returning thyroid cancer) left early December.

I;ve been given the name of the replacing general surgeon. Asking around he is well liked and has an A1 work ethic.

It is right that you should research your surgeon.

I hope you find out all you need to know or want to.

I searched "surgical outcomes uk" and got a page headed "Surgical Outcomes Driving up standards of care for patients through publishing surgeons outcomes data" which then listed different sources for different specialities, though no EPs, only cardiac surgery, not quite the same. Makes me think, however, that the place to try is whatever professional body covers EPs, though I can't find one.

Thank you I’ll take another look. Pre op tomorrow so I’ll also ask what I can then.

Great. Good idea to ask what the % success rate is with this EP for the particular procedure planned, bearing in mind that a single overall figure is of no use, as there are many sorts of different challenges and difficulties in AF ablation

Success rates for ablations are not relevant. Is it considered successful if the AF returns after 3 years or five? Many AF episodes return in new pathways after an ablation and it is not due to bad surgery. I strongly doubt that all patients are monitored for years.

I've had 3 successful sinus operations over the years.

Not what you're looking for?
