Can I ask if anyone has had stomach problems on the above meds? I have started with ongoing issues (mainly what seems to be trapped wind my upper abdomen and around my belly button which is much worse when in bed at night and is relieved for a moment by massaging the area).
I already take Lanzoprazole for a similar problem years ago but it doesn’t appear to be helping. I have been on the meds since March 2024 but this issue has started (or certainly got a lot worse) in the past few months. Before I head to the doc I just wondered if this is something any of you fine people have suffered from?

I had issues like that (was on Flecainide and bisoprolol) that stopped as soon as I stopped taking the PPI tablets. I wasn't on lanzoprazole, but can't recall the name. The long term affects of PPIs got me off them sharpish!
Really , if this is new and you already take a PPI it needs properly assessing by the GP.Not all new symptoms , or worsening symptoms will be because of health issues you already have or be side effects of medications you are already on , even if you have had the symptoms before.
Other potential health reasons for these need to be ruled out as well to ensure you and your GP don't just dismiss things as part of your existing problem and you get any new treatment you need quickly.
Are you taking your Lanzoprazole at the same time or just before your pills?
Do you also eat prior to medications , even if it's just a few spoons of natural live yoghurt and a teaspoon of honey this can help. This is a regularly used tip for people taking strong medication that can affect the stomach.
Do you take enough water with your medication , and drink enough during the day?
Do you only get the symptoms soon after taking your medication or does it happen after eating or physical activities or at specific times of the day?
These are important things you need to think through, keeping a daily diary for a few weeks of when symptoms occur help you to have your facts straight, so that you can tell your GP and they can accurately assess what you need.
You could find it is something very simple like changing some habits or having a change in the time or doses of your medication,
You might need a medication changed if other problems are ruled out.
If you've got an increase in GERD/ acid reflux it might just require a change or increase of your PPI or a change of some of the foods in your diet or sizes of meals.
It may just help to change the position that you sleep in at night keeping your head and shoulders raised on comfortable firm pillows and sleeping on your back or left side.
Rubbing your stomach in an anticlockwise movement from the belly button in expanding circles , using the movement for a number of minutes can improve passage of food and gas in the intestines.
Gentle stretching and gentle movement and little strolls about in the day can help with digestives pain. If you become less active , or you are far more active , than you were before beginning medication this can add to trapped wind.
You can start trying some of the tips straight away but you should also arrange that visit to the GP.
I have tried all of these things but none really make a difference and I had none of these symptoms before upping my Flecainide and starting Apaxiban. I will try see my doc and discuss alternative meds and trying to rule out anything more sinister which coincides with the starting on these meds.
I take Flecainide and the info in the packet does admit to flatulence and digestive problems as “rare side effects”! It would seem they are not that rare but it does keep my heart in order! As it has stopped episodes of AF, I have stopped taking anticoagulants - the first of which gave me dreadful diarrhoea and the next constipation! When I had an endoscopy, when still taking Apixaban, I think, my stomach still hadn’t emptied 5 hours after eating! I could see it- turns out I have a hiatus hernia. I used to do a daily exercise for that but it doesn’t seem to be much of a problem any more.
I was diagnosed with Gerd years ago and have been on various PPI's over the years
Approx 4 years ago i decided along with my G.P that i really didn't want to be taking them for another 10 years or so
I was weaned off them using Gaviscon advance
However since being diagnosed with high blood pressure and taking Amoldipine ( causing severe Gerd) and Ramipril(causing a cough) My meds were changed whilst in hospital
I presented to hospital with very high heart rate and diagnosed with paroxsymal atrial flutter
I was given an echocardiagram which was normal
I was seen by cardiologist who prescribed Apixaban,Bisoprolol and Candesartan
Since starting on these meds the stomach problems have gone throu the roof
I am now taking 40mg Esomeprazole daily which i did not want to start again ..ever
Years ago i was on 30mg Lansoprazole
I was told i need these to protect my stomach
I hate taking them, but they have stopped my symptoms of gnawing stomach pains, excess acid, hoarse voice etc
I believe the main contributor to all is the Apixaban because while i did suffer from a few symptoms before, they have been far far worse since taking Apixaban
I been having similar symptoms for a while but didn't connect it to the flecainide but you might be onto something. One connection I have made is that when I have that gaseous pressure pushing upward it can trigger an AF episode. I feel like stomach issues have a relationship to AF episodes. Purely personal anecdotal experiences.
