Hello, I have been suffering from ventricular ectopy (VE) for more than 4 years. I am 30 years old and would like your opinion. I have been treated so far with Flecainide 100, but now I have been advised to switch to Propafenone. I have up to 30,000 EVs per day and often feel dizzy. Is there anyone who can help me with how to manage this situation?
Propafenon : Hello, I have been... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Propafenon

30,000 is a large number to have daily! I’m guessing the flecainide hasn’t controlled them. I have never taken flecainide or the drug they’re wanting to switch you to. I don’t know how relevant this is based on the small detail you’ve given but - I can have over 10,000 a day but not every day and that is considered on the higher end of normal. I can’t take flecainide as I have a sodium channelopathy and flecainide will make my condition worse, and possibly put me into ventricular tachycardia.
If you’re having 30,000 ectopics a day it will very likely have reduced your EF and caused some structural issues for you especially if it’s been over a period of time. That’s a huge number to have and it means at least 30% (approx) of your beats are only ectopics.
What have you been diagnosed with? What other drugs do you take?
"In the last few days, I have had a heart rate of around 8000 beats EV per day, and I am still experiencing shortness of breath. My doctor thinks we should switch to propafenone, so for the past two days, I have started taking 150 mg of propafenone three times a day, along with 2.5 mg of bisoprolol."
I’m not sure I understand. Your post says 30,000 but it appears you’re quoting something else? Sorry, but I’m very literal. Are you already taking propafenone? What is your diagnosis. Do you only have ventricular ectopics?
Hi. PropafenonePropafenone is indicated for this arrythmia. It doesn'doesn'seem like the flecinide is helping and it certainly might be worth a try. Your present situation is untenable long term. Best of luck, etheral
I would recommend trying the propafenone, I have ectopic beats in the neighborhood of 60K plus when it is really acting up. I will say it works for me, but it did take some time to adjust the medication. It has worked for me when nothing else has. I still have some episodes, about every six weeks or so, which is much better than every day.
If you think it is drug related than maybe take at night.
If you're not already being followed by an electrophysiologist, you might want to see one about this – especially since you report symtoms.
